The cage is a kit from Advanced Autosports. Of all the cage kits out there I just liked some of their features the best... I was very very pleased with the product. The cage is built to maximize room and I need that for a guy my size. The only thing I would change or modify would be the door bars. I would have preferred them to go out to the door skin. But I would definitely recommend this for the DIY'ers. Just have to take your time and measure 5 times - cut once and take small copes until each bar fits like you want it to.... |
I'm looking to finally install a seat in my miata. I have been eyeballing the Sparco Circuit and the Sparco Pro ADV TS due to their size. I'm a rather "tall" and "skinny" guy. So at 5' 10" and 150lbs, will I fit snug in either one of these seats? There isn't a dealer within 4hrs of me otherwise I would try them out myself and I have reached out to some local miata guys for help too. Any other measurements I should be taking to figure this out?

PCI Adjustable Seat Mount
I do not know if this common knowledge to those with PCI Adjustable seat mounts, but I use this little trick to help mount my seat that last smidge bit lower. The side mounts and base are attached together with a welded threaded bolt, backing plate, washer, and then finally a hex nut. I have found if you inverse the hardware, with the welded bolt on top, you can get a bit more clearance and can get your seat a fraction of an inch lower. This allowed me to use the next lower mounting hole on my side mounts.
Pictures. With backing plates, washer, and hex nut on top the hex nut would foul the bottom of the seat. I can get this for $150 is it worth it with the rip in the side? How well does the Champ-r fit in a miata? This would be a passenger seat to compliment a WRC-R that is yet to be mounted

Google the dimensions. To fit OEM door trim it needs to be narrower than about 500mm. Tall drivers need about or less than that same dimension to clear roll bar/cage main hoop. The discontinued OMP Grip fit with a bit of trimming for a tall driver.

I'm going to install a Kirkey 17" Pro Drag (Model 41) with a PCI adjustable base in the next few weeks. Anyone have pictures of their aluminum seat back brace configuration that they would like to share? I recently put an I/O Port brace into a Lemons car; it was easy to install and worked well. However, in reading through the Safety Thread, it was intimated that this brace was not optimal. I've searched extensively on this, and found a few pictures in build threads, but very little description of which brace was chosen or why. Thanks

That's the seat I use. No pics of brace, though. Those seats are surprisingly comfortable. You can tuck a bit of padding beneath the seatcover for longer trips for seat bottom or lumbar assistance if you need it.

I've had a 16 Track Dog Pro Race https://trackdogracing.com/ULS-RoadRace.aspx and while it was super comfy on the track with great support, going anywhere over 45 min long was literally a pain in my skinny ass due to pressure points and no lumbar support. It was better than other seats I've tried, but I don't understand how these very similar Kirkey's are so much better. Unless I just need to gain 50lbs so that my bones don't create too many pressure points. I'm kind of similar to Emillio in height/weight and I believe he is using a composite shell seats and not aluminum one.

Why you don't want an IO post Style brace on an aluminum seat. The shape of a 'bar' and it's strength is parallel with the direction of the bar. When it comes to a rear impact that bar can remain in place while the seat is pushed back. The bar itself can then be pushed through the 1/16" aluminum sheet metal and into the driver's spine. This can cause severe injury or death. Kirkey's seat back brace is made from the same thickness sheet metal as the seat is made from. So in a rear impact the seat back brace will not punch threw but rather distort with the seat, thus reducing the chances of injury. IO port braces do have their place and can be used with an expired FIA seat. FIA seats are much stronger than aluminum seats. |

I've done ~7 track days so far in my NB. I'd definitely fail a meaningful tech inspection, as my helmeted head is well above the Blackbird rollbar I have - I can't even have the top up without being majorly slumped down in my seat. As I plan to continue doing 1-2 track days a month with this org, it seems time to get seats and make things a bit safer (and have the ability to drive with NASA/SCCA and other orgs with real tech). I'd also like to stop having to readjust myself on every straight. I have an action cam mounted to my helmet, watching the video back it's crazy how much I end up moving around in the stock setup. Was originally looking at aluminum seats, but after I buy all the bracing, it seems like I might as well just get a fiberglass seat. Anyone try fitting the OMP First-R into their car? Also, any tips on what to look for in a shop to do the install? I don't have a welder, and have no intention of buying one and learning on my safety equipment. I'm in Phoenix, but it doesn't look like any of the big names/vendors on the forum are from the area. |

A OMP first, We don't have any pictures of one in a Miata but they should fit based on measurements. naturally, all Fiberglass seats need some hammer time on the trans tunnel. Deleted rear seat mounting humps, made custom bracket, bolted through floor with load spreaders underneath. Had to cut off part of headrest and shoulder wing to fit with roll bar/ door cards.
