Hey all,
I remember someone from 949 Racing mentioning a seat brackets that are adjustable and mount behind the rear bosses. Anyone got a link to those?

So I'm considering trying to fit fiberglass sparco seat that doesn't fit perfectly without mods. I've considered and done some hammering ( looks like may need cutting into trans. tunnel for the best effect), but it seems that I may be able to get enough clearance for the seat if I shave off the C curve on the seat edge (where the cover is wrapped around and held in place by wire/glue). Those curved edges are about 1" each, so I'm thinking of shaving off one on the thigh support on the right (by trans. tunnel) and on the the wing where it touches the door. Plan would be to leave a small curve enough to hold fabric, but not as nearly pronounced as it is now.

Would that be a bad idea or really terrible one?

Flanges coming off flat surfaces add large amounts of stiffness and strength. Considering that an FIA seat can add considerably to side impact protection, cutting that flange on the outboard side seems especially suspect.

Just barely. But it may be different for you depending on what your torso/head height is. If you are all legs (I am 5'10" with a 33" inseam) you may be fine. When mounting the QRT-R with the PCI brackets, the "butt" part of the seat interferes with the rear bolts so I can only get it so low (at least I think this is the issue). I now need to extend the pedals and get the 949 steering wheel spacer to move the seat back and down. I would avoid the QRT-R/PCI bracket for this reason if max low in an off the shelf/no-fab package is your objective. If you already have the seat, I would cut the humps and bolt/weld the universal Sparco mounts to the floor.

Adjustable or fixed rails: Fixed
Rail model: PCI
Driver height & weight: 5' 7" 185 lbs
Fit in car: Bashing of trans tunnel required and upper door card gets indented, but it fits
Driver fit: Snug but comfortable

I am also using an Autopower seat back brace https://www.ioportracing.com/install...at-back-brace/
and I replaced the padding in the seat and back cushions with confor foam like the stuff the "backsaver" pad is made out of. I've traveled 4 hours nonstop on the highway and not had any aches or pains...that stuff is truly remarkable.

Model: Sparco Rev QRT
Brand: Sparco
Size of seat: 560mm bolster width, 394mm base width (front), 384mm base width (rear)
Side or bottom mount: Side mount
Adjustable or fixed rails: Fixed rails
Rail model: Skidnation seat rails
Driver height & weight: 5'8, 132lbs, 29in waist
Fit in car: Clears factory door cards by a few mm
Driver fit: Snug fit for a small driver - the harness holes are a good height for me, and I have a short torso and longer legs. I've had friends sit in the car who are bigger (not overweight) and it's a very tight fit for them. I think this seat will only fit shorter drivers.

The seat is pretty great, but the skidnation rails were rubbish. I cheaped out as they were pretty low priced but honestly, go buy good rails. There's absolutely no clearance on the back bolt (see pic) on the rear of the seat which attaches it to the floorpan, it was an absolute pain trying to torque it down. Dreading having to take the seat off, but when I do I'm going to fab up a bracket to get them onto the stock rails, I'm not tall enough for the extra seat height to be a problem.

MT not letting me upload pics so have in imgur album:

Default Sparco Evo QRT

I should have posted in this thread back when I did the install, but I here is my info...

Model: Sparco Evo QRT (https://www.ogracing.com/products/sp...ss-racing-seat)
Size of seat: Standard Evo (Medium)
Side or bottom mount: side
Adjustable or fixed rails: fixed
Rail model: Planted Universal Steel 90 degree side mount (https://www.ogracing.com/products/pl...egree-straight)
Driver height & weight: a little over 6 feet tall, 175lbs, 32 inch inseam
Fit in car: not well, required lots of floor and trans tunnel hammering
Driver fit: excellent, I have used the Evo in my racecars for years because it fits me so well
Certifications: FIA
Construction: Fiberglass
Weight: 15lbs (seat only, I did not weigh the seat with brackets)

My car is an NA track car with two of these seats. I knew I wanted to use these seats even though there would be easier options because they fit me really well. I am just barely over 6' tall and 175lbs. It was a nightmare to get the seats to fit low enough for me to pass the broomstick test. Lots and lots of hammering the floor and trans tunnel. My car has a Harddog double diagonal rollbar for reference. If I could do it again I would skip the hammering and just weld in some floor pan lowering plates. That would have been easier and safer.

I bought the track dog racing kit that came with the ultra low mount. I cannot even begin to describe how good this setup is. I'm a big dude 230 lbs 5'9

I was going to sell the car until I bought it. Driving position is everything. This was a last ditch effort to make the car a good fit for me.

Default Lotus Elise Seats

Not a track seat but for a street car these are great. I needed a seat that fit, got me low, provided lateral support but didn't have a bolster that made getting in and out of the car a pain. I originally had the Flipside rails on both seats that used the stock slider but switched the driver side over to the Luso Motor rails because it got me lower and allows me to set the tilt of the seat. These seats are pretty hardcore and they lack comfort but they make up for that with the driving position they offer. Still using the Flipside rails on the passenger for easy access to my ecu. The fixed Luso Rail's make taking the seat in and out a real pain. I also carry a small memory foam pillow for lumbar support, it makes a world of difference on long drives.

Model: Elise

Brand: Lotus
Size of seat: ?, they fit my 33" waist.
Side or bottom mount: Bottom (on the front), Side (on the rear)
Adjustable or fixed rails: Fixed (driver), Adjustable (passenger)
Rail model: Luso Motors (driver), Flipside (passenger)
Driver height & weight: 6' 2",200lbs
Fit in car: Excellent
Driver fit : Excellent
Link to seat or source: n/a
Link to rail or source: https://www.lusomotors.com/, https://www.flipsidecustoms.com/
Certifications: They're old as **** so if they had any it's definitely expired.
Construction: They were constructed, yes.
Weight: ******* light

You can see by the top of the seat how much lower the Luso rails get the seat without having to use the stock slider. Every little bit helps.

I might have to buy a set or two. Last month my mother visited and while she loved driving my 2001 Miata, she didn't like my modified Mazdaspeed with Elise seats. I'm 6'3", 180 lbs. but long torso. I'm using a similar set of brackets (chance design?) on OEM sliders. My head is slightly above both the seat and roll bar (I have the same Boss Frog bar). It looks like these brackets might get me close to being below the bar. I have the matching OEM hardtop but even with a seat drop pan I don't think I'd pass the broomstick test.

As for comfort, I have a set of first generation seats with lumbar bladders that came in the car as well as a set of Probax seats that I bought for my previous Miata. The Probax are a little less comfortable for me, I'd rather have the lumbar bladder. I was going to replace the worn out foam and customize it to fit. I bought a roll of 1/2" green upholstery foam and placed an order for that special, ballistic type foam that the Lotus owners use (doesn't bottom out) but gave up in early 2020. After about three weeks of the product not shipping I called. They said they'd get back to me with a time estimate but after a few more weeks with no update I disputed the charge.

Yeah that company/owner (Ernesto Freitas) has gone through a lot of growth since he started and I'm sure he's revamping some things including his site. Last time I checked he didn't even offer these rails on the site. Best bet is to contact him directly on FB. He posts a lot on the Miata DIY page and others. It took me 6 months to get my rails and his communication is spotty. Good luck.
