I need to take some pictures of my home made hitch. It attaches between the eyes of to some Sec Miata tow hooks takes and takes about 30 seconds to install or remove with just 2 easy access bolts and the whole thing comes off. It hangs below the bumper and where I plan to have my diffuser but it is never installed unless I am towing. I also Don’t have to haul that 10 lbs of hitch mounting structure around when I’m not using it.

10 pounds? Mine is easily 30 pounds so far, but has more bracing and thicker tubes then most class 3 hitches

Ok my original one weighed 15 lbs but I thought it was heavier than a Hard Dog. My current one leaves less than 1/8 lb on the car when I’m not towing because of a couple little clips but I need to run 2 Spec meata tow hooks to attach it.

I've towed clear across the country with it and never had a problem.

My tow hitch is 2-bolts and I take it in and out at the track. Takes about 5-minutes.

Do you two use the bolts for the rear bumper or the ones for the tow points while the car is on the train?

How many pounds have you pulled before? I've had to haul 700-800 pounds across the country so far. Felt like the brakes were dragging the entire trip.

The two bolts I use are 3/4" bolts and they go through the center of the rear tow eyes (Spec Miata style) and into the ends of my hitch cross bar. I use specal made washers to keep the bolts centerd in the 2" ID tow eye holes and keep things captured. A couple of 1" square tubes welded to cross bar near the tow eyes stick up behind the bumper and are captured by small receiver brackets bolted up with the tow eyes, these keep the assembly from spinning about the axis of the two mounting bolts. Take the easy access two bolts out with a cressent wrench and the hitch assembly is off the car.

I've pulled a trailer loaded with tools camping gear and spare wheels and tires across country with it. Probably less than 800 lbs but I wouldn’t be afraid to haul 800 lbs with it.

To stay on topic this setup will be compatible with the diffuser I intend to make as well.
