Put me down for a set, but if your still on the fence about it, I would like to see 7075 used on the spacers instead of 6061

I know alot of you guys want to weld in the retainers, but if retaining compound works, wouldn't getting the retainers made from 6061 reduce the machining cost dramatically?

Am I missing something? Why does the sleeve need welded into the upright? The upper control arm pocket sandwiches everything together and with the spacers... I don't see how there's anywhere for the assembly to go. ???

There still needs to be clearance between the sleeve and the upper control arm ears or else you might just run a solid bushing rather than a spherical. I'm just using loctite 620 since thats what the sleeve was sized for. If the loctite fails the uca keeps it from being a catastrophic failure (IE wheel coming part way off and you crashing), but it would still end your day of racing.

Ok, so there's clearance between the sleeve and the ears. The spacers and spherical are clamped between the ears and the sleeve is constrained on the bearing by the snap ring.

When the rear suspension is assembled, are you sure the knuckle wants to move along the sleeve? In my mind the upper arm isn't taking any force in that direction, it's just supposed to be a defined length. How could the wheel come off if the knuckle moves along the sleeve?

No, the sleeve is green loctited into the upright, the bearing is held into the sleeve with the snap ring, and the spacers go on either side of the bearing and get clamped by the control arm.

That's what I just said... "the spacers and spherical are clamped between the ears and the sleeve is constrained on the bearing by the snap ring[s]". We're on the same page on the assembly. I'm saying, what is the loctite actually doing? You think if you omit the loctite that the knuckle is going to move fore and aft on the sleeve? If you were to completely unhook your UCA... you just have the knuckle in the lower control arm... can the knuckle move fore-aft?

Yes, yes you can, because bushing deflection, even with delrin in the outer lowers.

it was about $5 cheaper per sleeve. at that price, id like to keep them steel for those that want to weld, and more importantly, it will be more durable. ive seen some failures with snap rings in aluminum.

i can do 7075, i just wanted to do an analysis like bob did to see if its really necessary.

under acceleration and braking the knuckle will want to rotate about the wheel bearing axis. although the lower control arm and bushings take most of this force the upper still sees the same force, and this will prevent the rubber from preloading in order to take said forces.

i think you read leafys post wrong, he said it cant come off in a worst case scenario since everything is captured.

Was looking at things tonight in the garage and realized that with the v8 control arms I am running, I have a stock eccentric bolt holding the upper. Is that going to be an issue??

You can put me down for 5 complete sets (5 cars). When you need deposit or full payment just let me know. (If you need me to commit to more to get things moving, let me know.)
