Wait how much did you spend on the $700 trailer again? Just kidding, setup looks super nice for sub $2k

Also, if I could find any truck that cheap down here I'd be all over it...

Haha, yes - I typed the price twice.

The only downside on the truck is in the mountain passes it kicks down a gear and on the extreme grades, I'm down two gears and flatout at ~50mph. What does a 'big block' 6 cylinder gas engine need to make more torques? TURBO!

I've seriously thought about it. Ford put the TD04 transmission in diesels too so there is no concern with power capacity there and the turbo should actually help the pumping loss on the flats and balance out the fuel that would be turned to 70mph on the big hills. With this displacement and how I use it (95% towing), I could put on a massive turbo with zero concern for lag. 6 or 7 psi would be plenty.

Remove the wing for towing. Proven .5-1mpg improvement, but then again we tow @70+. I usually don't bother with the in town events, but off it comes off for the longer hauls.

But it stabilizes the rear end...?

I bet that trailer behaves real nice with that much downforce behind the axles...

You might improve the MPG by setting the wing some degrees negative, as per Emilio's high speed tests (helping the turbulence).
But an aerodynamic enclosed trailer would be even better (if it weighed close to nothing), or an aero designed tarp.

Not the smallest Photoshopped example though.

Interesting how many general "aero" designs still have pointy sleek fronts and steep rear ends...
Customer "understanding" trumps science yet again I guess

2014 F150 Ecoboost. This is the first time I've towed a long distance with it. From Murfreesboro, TN to Road Atlanta and back in 1.5 tanks of fuel (36 gal tank). I averaged just over 14mph towing 70mph most of the time.

2001 GMC Seirra 3500 duramax, and 36 foot goose neck. Averaged 10.2mpg from Denver to MRLS. Had 2 cars in there, so in racers math 20.4 mpg. Certified scales had me at #20,980

How do you get such good mileage towing? My Ecoboost gets 12mpg when towing even a small 3000# trailer.

I typically don't cruise at much over 70mph. Also in the rolling hills I will build up speed on the way down the hill so I don't have to use at much throttle/boost to make it up the next side. I really try to work on being smooth and deliberate with my throttle inputs as well.

I have an 04 Silverado standard cab long bed, 5.3L. Has plenty of power most of the time, and has gotten me up some STEEP hills in NC more than once. I have an extra set of leafs in there, and it pulls dead level. Couldn't do that before no matter where you loaded the car(s).

Trailer is a 16' Big Tex that I hate, because the ramps are too short and the fenders are too high to open a door. It does have brakes on both axles though, which is nice.

I do have to put the truck on a set of ramps to get the trailer low enough to drive on/off of with the Mazda. Drag car was hit or miss.

I did make the mistake of towing the RX7 with the COT wing on the back and no air dam (so the nose was open). Trailer was all over the place. Put the air dam back on the car, pulled straight as an arrow. Go figure!

I seem to always get caught in the rain, but it is cool watching that rooster tail come out from under the wing...

No, I was there with my FP car and another FP miata that I thatI towed out. Though it would be fun to track my turbo car MRLS.

He asked because the first ~6 months of '98 production run were 12v. So called "grail trucks." Only way to get a factory suicide door + 12v motor.

Sorry

98.5 is what I have.

I did see a couple "holy grail" cummins but the premium wasn't really worth it to me.
