Been using a 4.0 Dodge Nitro with an 1100# trailer
Tow's surprisingly well at 70 - 75 mph |
X5M with 16' open trailer. This truck has so much power. If it wasn't for the miata tailgating me it would be easy to forget anything is back there. This truck is my track insurance. It the weather is crappy, or my miata breaks, I put the truck on track. It is surprisingly capable.

Got this a few weeks ago. Overkill for trailering one car, but the plan is to trailer two cars at some point. No towing mileage data yet, but averaged 14.2 mpg on a recent trip to Dallas. :D

We call that the BMW salute.

Truck drivers get no respect. First clip from a recent DE in my X5. I cut out two laps in the beginning and started just before my frustration begins to get the better of me. Second clip is of much more courteous drivers.
|
In the first clip it didn't even really look like you were trying to make a pass. I am pretty good about point-bys myself but if you are having trouble with someone who isn't as situationally aware you need to be right up on his ass in his driver side mirror. I will almost draft people for half a lap so it is abundantly clear that I am faster and want by. This isn't a public road where people drive erratically so you can get really close without much fear that there will be a wreck.

I concur, a little tailgating gets the point across quicker - as well as the point by. But this bus doesn't stop as well as my miata (wonder why) and the offending driver was the white Honda. I didn't want to annoy the FRS. He was generally pretty fast. He gave up trying to pass and gave me a swing at him. When I got around the FRS I did ride the Honda. Probably too close. With the wide angle go pro "objects are closer than they appear".

Yep. It was after I pulled out to cleaner air that the FRS let me pass. I watched the second video again. Last car passed was the same white Honda. This time there as no hesitation at the first passing zone. Perhaps I made an impression the first day.

Yeah, until you break the truck on the track and then you have to tow three things home. :)
