If I don't sleep well then I have a bad weekend and that defeats the purpose. I have become too much of a prima Donna to sleep in the back of my own pickup truck anymore, lol.

Luckily sleeping in the back of my Jetta is no problem for me. I'm 5' 11" and with the seats folded flat I fit perfectly. Little more comfortable than a pickup. I have a shit load of "comfort" camping gear though. Add in a memory foam mattress topper and it is acceptable.

Thanks for the tips on the Haulmark.
The leading option right now is the biggest Edge Low Hauler. It's technically a bike trailer, but appears to have the capacity and space to haul the car, and it's 80" tall external and 64" inside, much better than ATC, which seems stuck at 57" inside height. N |

Honestly, I don't mind paying the extra gas money for a bit more comfort in towing. When you tow 6 hours, its nice to be able to relax a bit while driving and not be a hawk-watching the trailer. Plus, I have a giant van and sleeping in it is really quite comfortable. Did I mention you get to do it with a trailer? not a dolly, which btw requires your car to be registered. |
Yeah, a dolly is not ideal. Neither is towing with a sedan but I had no choice. There's a thread about that around here somewhere....

I agree that the wagon is not ideal, but it is a cheaper and within budget solution to the occasional long distance hauls. Plus here in Utah/Nevada, we don't get crazy busy traffic or twisty roads. Our highways are smooth and pothole free. I do wish I could borrow a truck though... |

I'm cheap and on a budget but this is the best $1,900 tow combo out there. 1991 F-150 with a 300/6 for $1,200 and a $700 tandem 16' trailer for $700. I get 14 to 15mpg on 87 gas towing if I keep it under 65. The truck has twin fuel tanks which give a range of around 500 miles which is cool too.
I've thought about getting a baller diesel but doing the math assuming a $.20 per gallon delta on fuel cost and 4mpg improvement in fuel economy, I would still need to tow well in excess of 100,000 miles to break even on a $10,000 diesel truck.
