Safety concerns aside, it would be really shitty when you throw your 1/2" breaker bar with a few jack handle cheaters on a PPF bolt and the car starts spinning.

I think I've decided to build some wheel stands though that'll level the car and lift the tires up about a foot so I can easily make suspension adjustments. Similar to the ones in post 83, only not so deathtrappy (wheel stops, trapezoidal shape).

 

you could just be lazy and buy these.

My set has a 1" fence on all the sides Where the tires sit, it keeps the car from sliding off the stands when it sits on the grease plates during aligments, i was corner weighing it on the photo on 83

That's a lot better, can't see it in the photo. What size angle iron did you use for them?

 

I used 1"x1" x 1/8" angle, the top tray has 1/8" plate in it to support the tires and i use two 1/16" plates with grease between them to let the tires slide wothout a bind when aligning the car, i had the sacles on top of the stands on the photo i posted

I mean I made my stands with the 16/16 cinder blocks in the direction they're strong. Home depot might have had a miss price on them because they were like a dollar and change.

 

How much do your stands weigh? I may have missed the pictures, but are they two blocks high?

 

I've now had two more surprises from the the mortgage company. I had to meet the contractor who lives 50 miles away to retype his bid in a third(!) format and get him to sign it, then they wanted an engineer's report on a building that doesn't exist, which they decided to allow me to substitute a "feasibility study" for. This amounted to a second home inspection this afternoon (maximum wtf face) where the inspector counted rooms and took pictures of them (seriously), and looked out the back door long enough to go, "Yep, a garage would fit there." Whatever, man. Both are checked off.

Closing is on Wednesday, and the sellers have refused to push the closing for a fourth time. All three extensions so far have been because the mortgage company can't get their collective acts together, not anything we've done. We've been out of underwriting for weeks. If they come up with another stupid hoop to jump through then the shop project gets pushed off for six months, and I have to climb down the mortgage guy's throat.

I really haven't said anything about this on here, but I can't believe the amount of trouble this has been. I expected buying a house to be stupid, but it has been way beyond reasonable levels of stupid. Buying a house sucks.

That is normal at least as far as I can tell. I did not know my final price down to the penny till I showed up. I had an estimate within a few hundred, but until paperwork was signed and all I was guessing.

 

It's 2016. literally all of this process happens on computers. Why the hell can't one of them tell me how much money I owe them until I sit down to close? My interest rates are locked in, the amounts of everything are known quantities, there are no mysteries here. It is inexcusable that nobody can tell me closer than +/- $500 how much money I have to bring to closing.
