Bought a J32A2 swapped miata about a year ago. This one had the MiniTek kit- ran a few times at Laguna Seca & Sonoma raceway before a major and sudden loss in power. It was still running the stock ECU at the time, so had all sorts of other intermittent issues since the ECU was missing some sensor inputs (no IAC, no EGR, etc).

After swapping engines and installing an AEM PNP ECU (really the only option for the J32), went to get the car tuned only to realize a piece of stray catalytic converter had been causing my problems all along (so now have a spare engine, but given its only $500 and the swap is actually quick, not that expensive a diagnosis).

Did some preliminary tuning myself - then got the final result dialed in by Jei @ Blacktrax. Car made 243 whp and 220 lb ft. of Torque. Up about 10-15% in torque across the board from the old ECU. Couldn't be happier - had an old turbo '91 I had used a track rat, but love the high torque NA power of the J32. The Minitec kits needs a ton of modifications (custom exhaust, had to fab an additional engine mount so the engine is cantilevered, cooling system mods), but once its working its fantastic, and I didn't pay much for the car at all.
