I am currently running Schaefer 7000 20w50 and the track oil temps are staying at 235-240. The dyno revealed best power after oil was at 220F. I was thinking of running Amsoil Denominator 15w/50. The engine only has 10 race hours and 2 dyno sessions so still fairly fresh. I am in midwest, no street mileage since it's trailored to the track.
I was told by some to run mobil 1 but I think recommendation by Savington here point to Amsoil. Just wanted to get some insights on what others run.
Dominator doesnt have many detergents in it, it is really intended to be changed every event. The z-rod has good zinc and phosphorus levels and a decent detergent package that makes it better for long intervals between starts.
I was trying to give the engine best high zinc protection., I think you are right, i can run lower weight oil. I just received my oil analysis and things are looking weird on some metals they observe. Maybe will switch to a different oil. This oil analysis had 4 track days on it and few dyno runs.
IMO it doesn't matter what your induction is or how much power you make. You should choose your oil based on the oil temp you're going to run. At 240 I'd want a 50.
A 30 at 200 is roughly the same viscosity as a 50 at 240.
