Question Fast Spool T3

I recently finished up my turbo build on my 1.6 miata and went with the cx racing turbo kit (yes i've heard the turbo spools slow and the quality issues). I want to replace the laggy t3 with just another t3 china charger that will spool way faster, I'm wanting to keep the same manifold. I did my research and saw the posts that Braineck made about the 50 trim t3 he used on his 1.6 with pretty good spool but since most of those posts are older all of the ebay links don't work anymore and I wasn't able to find the same compressor wheel size as the one he used. Found this one from cashed out cars on youtube which he got to hit max boost around 4000 rpm. Was wondering if anyone knows the link to the same turbo that Braineck used since the compressor size was still smaller on his. Preferably would want one that already has the vband housing and the internal wastegate already set up like Brainecks.

The turbo you linked to the EBAY ad is a T04E-50 trim. If you convert this to the generic current Garrett number nomenclature, it gives you a GT3276, but sleeve bearing.
So this will not spool very well at all as it is really large. Hopefully someone can advise what he was using.

T3 Super 60 IIRC, but a search of the forum would confirm.

Thank you, looked into it and it looks like it spoils pretty fast and that’s the one.

even though it may not spool the best it is a lot better than what I have and it’s not super laggy either for a t3 turbo, just not the fastest

Time has flown by but did you ever switch the turbo? Any advice? My t3 doesn’t really boost till 4k rpm

There are some 3067's floating around, that have good potential

I gotta ask, would anyone share why this comp was made? Looking at the two compressor maps shows very different behaviors.

Also, I seem to remember someone back in the early 2000's was posting getting 10psi from a t04e .48a/r by 3200rpm and 300ish hp by 18psi.

Many years ago, I was doing a supercharger to turbo conversion on my VW, and scraped a lot information about budget turbos, turbo sizing and MegaSquirt from this forum.

I came across this today, and so as far I can remember Braineack and Underdog both ran a "Chinacharger" straight T3 at one point. The compressor side worked out to about a 50trim T3, with a .48 Hotside. But it was not a T4 compressor. Quite quickly both moved on from that turbo (as did I), but it was actually not terrible for spool time and peak power output, and was very small which is why I originally used it. Small "eBay turbos" were not very common at that time. It does still exist, but It's no longer the $100-$150 it used to be, it's $500 from AliExpress and $1000 from eBay.

The only pic I can find of it, is from an early mock up when I was just getting dimensions. But I grabbed some pics from a listing, and I'll include the links. Likely these listing are for dead stock, just clearing out the last of them. It was a cheap Garrett T3 IWG clone.
Certainly don't run this turbo in 2025, (Unless you got it for free) but for historical value you can gather up the specs now. In todays market, run a T25 based G25-550 or PSR 4849 or something similar. It will spool way faster, and has a much higher peak power capabilty. I think even MaxSpeedingRods has a G25 clone now?

As described in the listing and pics.
