98-05 1.6 engine block difference
So here is my story. I have a 98 nb 1.6 110hp engine that have turbo but due bad tune it bend and broke a rod and now I have 2 giant holes in my block. My question is do all 1.6 block are the same from 2nd generation miata, because I’m not running stand alone ecu , more like piggy back mega 2 and if I buy a whole new engine I have to get the new ecu if is not the face lift model. I just want to be as headache free as possible. Can I just swap the blocks and call it a day

Sorry for your loss there.
Not a complete answer, but, I took a 1999 1.6 L JDM sourced Miata engine, and swapped it into a 1989 Mazda 323GT, which uses the same block, a 1.6 L turbo, B6T.
I had to use the intake, fuel rail, valve cover, and exhaust manifold from the 323 GT, but they bolt on. (Oil pan too, but that is because FWD)
So, at worst you can use your original fuel rail, intake and exhaust (but may not need to).
The main difference in 1999 for both the 1.6 and 1.8 L was the change in the cam angle sensor, which meant there was also a difference at the back end of the intake cam shaft, so I had to swap that.
Depending on which year of 1.6 L you source, it is possible you would need to change the cam shaft so it connects to whatever method your car uses to determine cam angle. But you have your old head, so it will be the source of the cam, if you need to change it. Same might be true for fuel rail harness, if the wiring harness changed over the first 8 years.
Others on here will know a bit more about which years the cam shaft and the cam angle sensors differ.

I think the nb 1.6 only came with one version of engine.
you can even swap to a na 1.6 engine if you do some mods,
it has a different water pump, so youll have to swap to the nb pump and put a nut behind it due to the fact that the timing belt tensioner bolts to the block on the nb and to the waterpump housing on the na.
and the na doesnt have the mount for the alternator.
and you have to swap the cams, lifters and valvecover from the nb to the na head. also plug the head in the back where the cas is on the na.
if you swap to another Nb 1.6 it should be bolt on, but i always swap to the sensors from my old engine when i swap motors. because i know they work and that often saves a lot of time if something goes wrong.
there is limited info on the nb 1.6 as its a euro engine only, i dont even know what engine code it has.
