Default ME442 RPM needle

I just installed an ME442 PnP in my 2002 Miata. It works perfectly except the RPM needle is slow to respond when I turn the ignition on, and when I'm above 4000 RPM it seems to lose signal. Has anyone else experienced this? I had an Adaptronic PnP before and it didn't do this.
