Default ME442 RPM needle

I just installed an ME442 PnP in my 2002 Miata. It works perfectly except the RPM needle is slow to respond when I turn the ignition on, and when I'm above 4000 RPM it seems to lose signal. Has anyone else experienced this? I had an Adaptronic PnP before and it didn't do this.

Hey, the slow RPM needle response on ignition and dropping out above 4000 rpm with your ME442 PnP in the 2002 Miata is a fairly common issue. The ME442's tach output sometimes needs configuration tweaks in the software (check the tachometer settings and output frequency/pulse scaling) or a small pull-up resistor added to the signal wire. Since your old Adaptronic worked fine, try enabling the "alternative tachometer output" if available, or verify the wiring from pin 2K (or the dedicated tach pin) to the cluster. Many NB owners fix sluggish or high-RPM tach issues by cleaning grounds at the gauge cluster or adding a 1k-4.7k ohm resistor between the tach signal and 12V switched power. Check the ME442 install guide for your year and let us know your exact software version/settings.
