Recently dropped all the suspension on my 91, to replace ALL the stock bushes with Poly,s.
Now after doing this-took the car down to a specialist shop to get the alignment done, now had 1/2 tank of fuel and the drivers seat ballasted.
Even with the alignment bolt/cams fully adjusted i cant get the rear camber less than -4.6deg??, - i was aiming for -1.75 /-2 deg

Anyone any ideas, my ride height isnt excessively low either 12 1/4" at front, 12 5/8" at rear

Maybe you installed the bushings incorrectly? 12.25 front isn't much of a drop at all.

 

That just don't sound right, something is off there.
Did you get offset bushings?

 

oh i,m sure the bushings have been installed correctly, they were marked up where they went.
i guess i could buy a set of the FM adjustable bushes- i just wanted to now why the camber is currently so far out.

 

Strange that the camber is equally "out" on both sides, i remember the wishbones were tight to refit into the subframe mounting points- but i would have expected that with brand new bushes.

 

Do you have pictures? Nearly -5* should be visually obvious, just over half that on my car is.

That sounds like a lot, like broken a lot. I wonder if a second alignment at another shop would be a good idea. Could be their alignment guy isn't doing something correctly.

 

I,m pretty sure nothing is broken, but meanwhile i,m sourcing a magnetic camber guage to double check the shops figs.

Think ive got to the bottom off this- i tightened all the wishbone fixing points/bolts whilst it was up on the jacks.
Been suggested on another thread that i probably preloaded the suspenion and that i need to get it back up on the jack,slacken the bolts/fixtures and raise the the wheel back up to ride height and then re-tighten all the bolts.

I know nothing is bent

Theres no way n hell that can be -4.6*. Take it somewhere else.

I'm at -2.7* looks much more than that!





I do know if you are too low your situation can happen. I believe there are upper control arms to give you more angle to get less camber. But you don't look too low or too negative.

 

Another vote for a different shop. I've had some very bad experiences with alignment shops. For something that should be so common and simple, people really seem to screw it up. If there's a local car community or some autocross guys nearby try to talk to them and see where they go. I agree w/ the guys above, if you've got that much camber it'd be very obvious.

 

Well my tape measure, calculator and spirit level tells me its -1.7 deg, which is more like it.

Definately look around for another shop....that is far from -4.6. I am at -2.5 as well and have people all the time telling me something is wrong with my car. The rim doesn't sit straight. I then have to go into the whole scientology of camber for them.....

 

That's actually an ideal setting for the street.

 

Sure i,m ok about the setting , but its been a pain in the *** to find out-when the garage should have been getting it right from the start.
Dont gemme wrong - car drives fine, i just needed to know what my cambers were.

 

I'm with ya there, especially with the monies involved with a good alignment.
