I would like to introduce myself
My name is Bobby and I'm a Miata-holic. That being said, I got my first one in Texas about 3 years ago and since the bug hasn't gone away. I just got another one and I think I'll be turning it into a supercar
Forced induction is a must since i can afford it now, but I'm still stuggling to decide between the intro Greddy and the JRSC with water/air intercooler... I could even be tempted to make my own turbo, who knows. I dont like blowing my load all in 1 wad, so I'll stay away from Flyin Miata lol
Big thanks to olderguy for influencing me to join the community.

on a serious note: I dont think the greddy or a supercharger is a good Idea. DYI is the way to go, unless you want to go with a kit in which case begi is simply great.

Well if you are going for super car, than you are wanting what 220-300hp?
I wouldn't go SC unless it is a M62.......
My brother has a m45 and loves it. But he is going to be happy with 9psi. Whatever he acheives he says is fine. He just doesn't want to go management. He likes the FMU and MSD. He never tunes anything and it is dead reliable.
But me on the other hand, I wanted something I might can out a early 90's Vette in.
What yr and motor car do you have? And where are you located?
I wouldn't be scared of a older greddy kit mani and turbo, but you will wind up changing the dp and installing a ebay IC.
If you just want to get a turbo on it, than you are fine. But when you want more power, You will change out those two things.
The begi s kit is good. Then you just throw on a ebay IC. Management, then the sky is as high as the pocket book!

I'm in NC.. about 45min north of Charlotte. right now it's all about topping out the speedometer and having more torque.. I dont need more power than that until I get ready to swap out the diff for better gearing and get bigger wheels to fit over the brakes I have planned.
that being said, I like having a smooth power curve, but I also enjoy gas mileage when I'm not driving like a bat out of hell. I HATE the sound of a BOV, but I LOVE the whine of a S/C.. weird as it sounds, this car was made for a turbo.. I can tell by the way it revs.
so those are my requirements, smooth power curve, nice sound, and doubling the speed limit on a 70mph highway. a DIY turbo would be GREAT if i could get it to start spooling around 2500, and if I could avoid having a BOV at any cost. I like to do the random drift, so spooling quick and having smooth torque is a must..
what I want to avoid is.. rev rev rev lag lag lag ROCKET POWER!!! Because that's a sure way for me to end up facing the other direction.
I'm sure everything I love can be achieved with a nice DIY setup.. and if all else fails, s/c
you guys seem cool.. i'm looking forward to learning about you and the voodoo that turbos do

First gear is crazy in either setup, But my (2560) car's spool comes in quick, and is controllable.
The 2554 has basically no lag. Very controllable.
And with the turn of a $10 ****, not $200 a piece pullies, your boost goes up and up.
Few people on here have those super large turbo's that only work from 5500+ rpms. My car is probably full boost around 3700rpms. The 2554 is way faster than that. I imagine if I had a 2 1/2 or 3 inch down pipe it would spool very very low rpms. It is smooth and very controllable with the throttle.
For a different note. My brothers m45 is full boost later than the turbo. It reaches max 5psi at 4000 rpms. And if you install a intercooler, boost goes down 1psi, and they say idle will screw up.
We haven't crossed that road yet. but we will shortly. This weekend it gets a smaller sc pulley.
My bov isn't bad. I was disapointed in how quite it is. It doesn't woosh!!!!
But make sure you go by what you want. Your are spending too much not too. BUT DO NOT GO M45. If you are spending on sc, get the m62.
But FWIW the turbo is better bang for buck, in my opinion.
Good luck.

I assumed with the word "none" rather than "neither" you also objected to my DIY option.
If I learned enough I WOULD be the kind of person to do a DIY kit.. I just dont want black smoke or overboost destroying my engine. I've read a lot about how turbos work, and it seems kinda tricky yet kinda simple..
I like power, but I also like my car... I know the engine is pretty solid but I could easily **** it up by taking the wrong step or not adjusting the wastegate (or MBC) properly. I'm just parranoid about doing some voodoo that leaves me walking. So yeah, as far as a DIY setup, I have a lot of questions, but I dont know what they are... also I would like my engine bay to look as clean as possible without extra pipes and tubes everywhere... like a factory turbo where u dont even see it
is there a good tutorial with plenty of pictures or video that will show me how to make a DIY turbo for what I will be calling The Red Rocket?

Get the entry level BEGI kit with the MS option. Drive it for 20 minutes and then start dumping money into it. More boost is only a set of injectors and an intercooler away.
No matter what you end up doing a new clutch will be required, unless you have something aftermarket in there already ... or drive like a little girl.
Turbo is the big winner for gas milage, the SC will be worse than NA. Turbo will be at least as good. If you don't like the sound of the BOV recirculate it, if you must have the SC whine drain all the oil out of your transmission or diff.
Take whatever budget you have for going force fed and double it.
