Is this the Dark Side?

Is this the Dark Side?
I've heard of this site. I've heard that this is a place of knowledge, wit, and infinite danger. This is the place where the Miata faithful go to learn the art and science of extra-atmospheric combustion and to acquire the knowledge needed to harness it's evil boost.
It is also the place where a little knowledge can get a driver deep into the hell of scored cylinder walls and collapsed ring lands.
I'm here to watch. To learn, and laugh my *** off on occasion.
I'm looking for just a "little" boost to make up for the lack of oxygen here in Colorado.
So, is there any such thing as being satisfied with just a "little" boost?
We'll see. . . . Time for me to say hi and to resume my reading......

It will become like Heroine. You will start out, wanting 5psi. And the extra 40hp is nice. Then you find out you can turn it to 7 without a intercooler. Oh- yea now we are talking.
Then 3 months later you buy a junckyard ic or $35, or a ebay intercooler kit for $130 bucks.
Then you just say screw it and build or buy a ms and injectors, exhaust and go for 250hp.
But it is a entertaining journey over budget time
From the sounds of what you already have done. I bet you won't stop till 200+.
And it doesn't cost considerably much more to get there. if you like used specials.
But yes there are a few people that are happy with low boost.
I was until I played with the boost controller one day. Once you try higher boost once. You can't go back.

Although I still have a dead reliable 6psi to tool around in. LOL

Incremental progression to maxium boost obsession.... Just as I thought. Fortunatly, I can't afford the $$ to get myself into trouble just yet. I figure a year of saving and monitoring this site and I'll be set both financially and intellectually to make better decisions. Will probably just go with Corky's starter kit in the end but at least I'll know what I'm buying / doing. Now- those Ebay kits seem to have lots of pretty pictures of shiney new parts........ RESIST AT ALL COSTS>>> ok, I'm better now...
Thanks for the welcome.

This is the perfect site for those like you without the big bucks to spend. Don't fall into the ebay cheapo trap. You could easily start out with a used upgraded Greddy system or start lurking for good buys for a DIY build.
Seriously, every Miata needs MORE POWER! I went straight from 100 rwhp to 240+. It was exactly what my car needed! It didn't scare me, it's just fun as hell.
Your post sums up this forum perfectly. Too bad you sound like a brown-noser saying it!

Ya Had to take a shot??
Thanks for the advice. I'll start looking for used equipment. The only thing that I really have reservations about is fabbing the down pipe. I don't weld and I'm not sure there are any muffler shops nearby that can handle more than a straight weld. I might be wrong. Manifold, turbo, Downpipe- the big three. I'm certain that I can assemble the rest of the plumbing once I get the exhaust ports connected to the cat.

It's not uncommon to find a Mani / downpipe combo being sold. If they are from the same vendor or had been previously installed together they should work.
This forum's classified is a good place to look but check out the "all the miata sites you'll ever need" thread. There's a lot of places to find good used parts. Some parts might be easier to just go new and go DIY/used for others. Look for closeouts at the BEGI website or other vendors. Sometimes it doesn't hurt to send an email or call with "Hey, do you have any closeout, scratch/dent or 2nds available in X part" sort of thing. BEGI, FM and some others might have stuff gathering dust they need to move out.
Heck you are in FM's backyard. FTF isn't a bad way to build a relationship. Might get you 1st in line if they have something come in used or find cosmetic flaws they can't sell retail.
Take a shot? Who me? I'm as innocent as a kitten. Now quit being cheap and get it done!
