Default miata xtr 1.6 clutch kit on my pops 92 miata

ok well I'm not a noob i did search and found little but a page on adjusting the pedal..

i have a 1.6 miata 1992 with a xtr clutch and flywheel kit

the clutch doesn't release at all.. Ive moved the clutch rod out a lot and its still not disengaging..

The throw out bearing is moving as much as it seams possible and ill mess with the pedal settings again tomorrow.

I think what is really wrong is a problem with the flywheel being machined incorrectly. i happen to have a shim for my turbo escort with a bp. i know it fits the miata flywheel bolt pattern and i was considering pulling everything back out and tossing it on.

what do you guys think have you seen a lot of problems with these clutches?

We bought it even though it was seriously to low of a price because my friend has used xtr on two of his cars and had no problem.

any help greatly appreciated

Are you talking about the freeplay adjustment rod underneath the pedal?

During the clutchnet group buy, there were more than a few members that ended up in the same situation.

I currently am still using the clutchnet disc, but an ACT PP. Same with Newbsauce.

so is it the cover or the disk that causes all the problems?

i just took the trans off again and compaired the throw out bearings the new one is the same as the old one or real damn close..

that was my conclusion. The throw of the diaphragm was off, and the friction surface was not releasing.

When i finally used a few washers to bring the PP closer to the TB it worked, for a day.

interesting

now the miata is in the air going no where

it looks like you might have used a few to many washers and contacted the fingers to the disk?

I'm in email communication with gripforce where I got the xtr clutch.
I also filed a complaint on paypal.

So hopfully we get a new working cover form them.

what do you guys think of shimming the flywheel is it possible a 50 thousand'th shim might move it out far enough or maybe two shims behind the flywheel?

Do you think the failure was caused by the fingers pressing to far in and contacting the disk? they look bent up to me?

I tried one shim did not work

I will try a stock exedy cover in a day or so just so i can get the car back on the road.

What do you guys think of putting in a 50 thousand'ths flywheel shim and then shiming the PP

Maybe its possible 2 shims might have worked if there was some adjustment to the clutch pedal so it didnt go to far in ?

this is what i get for buying cheap ****. I should have turned /shimed the stock flywheel and put in a stock clutch pack now we just and r/r the tranny 10 times.

I also had to move the rod on the pedal all the way out, i think it was making the TOB travel too far and had too much angle at full reach and caught caught in the fingers.

I've never heard of anyone having problems with the ebay kits. I know the F1 kit is clutchnet parts, I assume the XTR is as well. I think when we had a group buy for clutchnet kits, there was a 50% failure rate, then a bunch just returned them and didn't want to risk it.

I was able to return the PP for my money back at least. gotta love being able to do a clutch job in under 2 hours now though....

yeah i was really surprised I'm able to pull the little 5 speed out of the car in about 30 minutes now..

I drove it up on ramps then jacked the back end up and put it on stands

put a jack on the oil pan to tip the engine and pulled the bolts using my snazzy ball joint 17mm and 14mm swivel sockets and my impact gun.

i also didn't separate the exhaust at the down pipe. i pulled the air box then, i took the heat cover off and pulled the manifold away from the engine.

i was intimidated with all this ppf talk in my Mitchell's i feel real confident doing a clutch on the miata

now if i could just get the clutch to disengage

yeah, like i suspected, all made by Clutchnet. I'd call them directly and see what they can do for you.

interestinly i found that a stock disc works great with the whole setup

wow light flywheel is nice! im breaking it in on a stock exedy disc but this will work for now we only baught the kit becuase the flywheel had cracks from previous owner dropping the clutch.. and the only reason we even took it apart was the trow out bearing was maiking noise probably from miss adjustment

anyway where do i get a new rubber boot to cover the hole in the floor?? His is completly ripped apart.
