Hack job 302 V8 Miata goes for $5k on eBay
Okay, so it's kind of hideous, but is everyone really going to let this go for $5k? It might take another $2k to sort it out, but you'd still be ahead of the game in total dollars invested.

Totally worth it IMO if it runs, and the conversion is not a **** quality job. I would want to know more about what was swapped on the rest of the power train. 5-speed = T5? Diff? Halfshafts? Too bad it is not FI.

The car run 13.08 shifting at 3500 rpm and let out at half track.
I think that is a homegrown install like my own. I've seen it around the forums, but I've not seen detail like welds, etc. I would not buy that car without inspecting the install/fabrication in person. $5K is probably not a bad place to start if you are going to trailer it home and have the ability to redo most of the conversion if necessary.
The last thing that I recall about that car was that he was going to run the stock diff until it blew. He does not mention a Ford diff which is what most of us are using. Consider that it would be another $1500-$2000 to the rear up to speed.

Yeah, I think there's a thread on m.net somewhere about this car, and I remember the same thing about the diff. If he'd posted it on CL for $5k I'd go down and check it out, but I'm not dropping $5k on it to find it's a butcher job.

Things I do not like:
- Stock rear end (should be upgraded and that is expensive).
- Very low exhaust routing, and that goofy front exit setup.
- Carburetor
- The cosmetic stuff, like the carb scoop and the wing
- I hate light blue on any car, personal preference
- iron block engine, though it is a 302.
- Other stuff I forgot about
Definitely a budget build.

WTF are people putting 302s in when 5.3L Chevys are cheap, EFI, and vastly better? I just dont get it. Not only will the 5.3 make the same or better power, it's probably about the same price (if not cheaper) it bolts up to a ton of trans options, its much, much easier and cheaper to go AL block in the future, it probably weighs the same with a few LBs of a 302, it wont **** its guts at 600WHP due to a crack in the valley, and it comes with better heads by a country mile. 302s are fine, but if starting from scratch without a killer donor car (Tbird/Mark VIII) or something, why?

For the record, I bought a 5.3 a few months ago and decided not to put it in my miata. It's in my garage on my engine stand. Any takers? Pick up only. I was gonna keep it for a spare engine for my 2000 silverado, but if the price is right, it's goin.
