Hi; here's a question for the AEM gurus in this forum: can I use AEM PRO or Tuner with Windows 7 (64 bit)?

I've been trying to connect my new laptop to the AEM Pro using Windows 7 64 bit with no luck.

My local tuner just informed me that they are not compatible. Is this the case? If so; what can I do about it?

I have no problems with 7 32bit. Never tried 64, though.

 

My laptop had win7 when I was using AEM Pro worked great

 

But the thing is the 64 bit part.

I went to the AEM forum and couldn't find any threads on the subject.

 

Just made a quick phone call to friend of mine with 64bit.... If you have a USB to Serial adapter, it will NOT work. But a Serial to Serial connection would work just fine.

The problem is I don't have a serial port.

Would you know if it would work with a PCMCIA serial card adapter?

 

What serial adapter are you using now?

Ok; here's a quote from one of the posts in the thread linked:

"YOU MAY NEED TO SLOW DOWN THE TRANSFER RATE TO GET IT TO WORK, BUT I HAVE USED EVEN THE CHEAPEST USB-DB9 ADAPTORS".

Can someone tell me what that transfer rate would be so I can try different adapters?

I don't have experience with the AEM specifically, but just set the transfer rate at the lowest setting and try to connect. Go up one setting and repeat.

I would start at 800.

I was able to connect to the AEM but it would cut off when it tried to start the transfer process. I think the default setting for the transfer rate on the AEM is 9600?

Found an adapter with a Vista driver and it worked perfectly.

So; my local tuner was wrong again

 

Watch out for them local tuners!
