Default Asking a question borne of laziness...

So I have an impending engine rebuild coming and I'm going to have everything balanced. I have a 1.6 with a greddy kit in case you're wondering. My question is does a 1.6 clutch kit work with a 1.8 flywheel? I ask because I have a 1.6 ACT upgraded clutch kit but for me to get the flywheel balanced to the rebuilt engine (spare one in the garage) I have to take my **** apart and get the flywheel off the 1.6 currently in the car. HOWEVER, I have a 1.8 flywheel sitting on a shelf somewhere in the garage. Like the title of the thread says, borne of laziness... I just don't want to have to crawl under the car and disassemble that stuff right now.

Okay, oddly enough I may have found the answer to my own question while shopping for 1.8 clutches. Here's the kit I have.

http://www.racinglab.com/act-clutch-hd-mazda-007.html

Same size for both 1.6 and 1.8. Weird, but I'll give it a whirl and have the rebuilt engine balanced to the 1.8 flywheel and have the 1.6 clutch stuck to it.

I am almost 100% certain that a clutch intended for a 1.6 Miata will not fit a 1.8 Miata flywheel.

That link you posted to is for the Protege. While I can't say with certainty, I am guessing that perhaps all Proteges of that vintage had the same flywheel, regardless of engine displacement?

Will not work. Two completely different setups. 1.6l is a flat flywheel, whereas the 1.8l has raised steps that the pressure plate sit on. One pressure plate is deep, one is shallow. One has a 200mm friction, one is 215mm.

If you can source a 1.6 flywheel, it'll fit on either a 1.6 (obviously) and a 1.8. I think some autocrossers at stock power levels do this to save some weight.

Everyone knows the best way to sell a used engine is to bump a 9 year old thread. Bravo!

Kinda think he wants to buy the engine, and hopes it's an easy swap; not sell it.
