Default 1088 electric horsepower

... and 2800 ft/lbs of torque. Rimac Automobili is building something called the Concept_One, which is supposed to be capable of sub 3 second 0-60 times, a governed top speed of 190 mph (weak-sauce), 350 miles to a charge and I imagine other things as well. It's set to be unveiled Tuesday at the Frankfort motor show.

Discuss.

Seems like a logical next-step in the evolution of the electric supercar. And not too shabby at 1,650 kg (3,600 lb), exactly the same weight as a Lamborghini Murciélago and considerably less than a Bugatti Veyron.

I'd be curious to know who is funding this venture, and whether they actually intend to produce the vehicle commercially.

Very interesting.

I company I work for is coming out with an electric supercar with 2100 hp and 4000ftlbs. It looks just like the above but with bigger motors. Really.

Yeah, handling all that current makes it 'real hot, real quick'. That's our slogan.

Is it just me or do those things seem to be opposites?

I've read that the more powerful the motor(s) the more efficient they can be/are. Also, this thing will no undoubtedly be very expensive and thus have the latest technology, allowing for the long range.

I call complete BS.

What are electric cars running nowadays? 60 miles on a charge for the leaf?

And they expect this thing to run 6 times that?

Didn't audi do a le-mans car recently that averaged like 80mpg on diesel....IN A COMPETITIVE RACE? I would rather have the 80mpg diesel - electricity is too expensive.

Now if they want to replace the exterior of the car with doped silicon, or even better, lab grade dye sensitized cells, then maybe I'll start leaning toward the super-efficient electric...

It's a concept car with lots of $ behind it, the Leaf is a very different, much cheaper car with newer better tech, I think it's possible.

If I put a 200 gallon fuel tank into a Chevy Lumina, it'd be able to run well over a thousand miles on a "tank" of gas. GM doesn't do that because it would mean sacrificing things like trunk space or room for a back-seat passenger.

Given a large budget, I could also build a Leaf that would do 350 miles on a charge. It just wouldn't have a trunk or passenger seats.

That's really all that's going on here. This is a concept car, built on a large budget and not intended for purchase by the average commuter. Thus, they have given over space and weight which, in a "normal" car would be reserved for passengers and luggage, to batteries. Not exactly rocket science.

We accidentally build electric rockets here in the lab from time to time. They work, but only once, and we're usually quite unhappy when they launch.

Team Haiyin EV Racing at Lebanon Valley Dragway, NY. Sanctioned by the East Coast Electric Drag Racing Association. 10.08 seconds in1/4 mile @ 127.75 mph.
"Warp Factor II" driver by Ron Adamowicz. The Camaro is powered by Lithium Polymer Pouch cells Ultra-Power Lithium Polymer Cell P68100120F-50C produced by Haiyin Technology Co. Ltd. The DC electric motors are produced by Netgain Motors.

I was at the track the day this video was taken. I'll say this much, watching electric drag cars ain't very exciting.

Wow.

You're comparing a mass marketed production car that's ready for general public consumption for (somewhat) affordable money... to an eleventy bazillion horsepower engineering project supercar, and drawing conclusions on what is possible? Then backing up your position by somewhat recalling that you might have heard about an Audi LeMans diesel ding 80mpg..

I honestly think I've heard better logical thought arguments from young-earth creationists.

Watching that electric camaro run without the sound of a thumping V8 just seemed so odd.

350 mile charge? I would really like to see that.
perhaps mostly down hill and at 40 miles per hour.
I think top gear tested the tesla and got 40 miles each time
they claimed over 200 per charge. I guess we will just have to see
