Looking for ideas and opinions on a replacement clutch. I've currently got a FM stage 1 clutch, and an FMII turbo kit with a 2560R at 12psi on a '99 with a stock engine. Been working with my tuner to get the turbo lined out. The clutch starts out holding fine, but after awhile it just slips like crazy. No idea exactly how much power I'm making since it won't hold, but it should be around what FM advertises since my engine is stock.

I contacted FM about the clutch since I should be well within it's power levels, and they suggested that there might have been something wrong with the install. I am taking the car in for some other work next week, and will have my mechanic check it out. However, I need to prepare for a new clutch if the damage is already done or if the clutch just isn't going to hold (for whatever reason).

My tuner and another local guy that has a high power turbo are both recommending an ACT with a 6 puck. While I'm confident this will hold fine I'm a little hesitant because this is my daily driver, and you always see a lot more people saying they wouldn't DD a 6 puck than those that do. I do see the occasional heavy stop and go so the on/off action is a little off putting.

Any advice/recommendations for a good DD clutch with possible occasional autocross/track day would be great. I'm not really for or against anything even if it means I have to adjust to something new. I'm a little spoiled with the ease of the FM stage 1, but not holding the power I got is pretty saddening.

 

Your tuner and local guy are both ignorant to suggest such a terrible DD clutch.

It doesn't get much better than the FM1 for the street. If you truly don't plan to exceed the stock engine's torque capacity then I'd stick with that.
If you want more grip I'd go FM2 or try 949's new equivalent.

They say the FM1 is good for 318lb/ft.

 

You mean it holds fine for a while but when the car gets hot it slips. Look up "clutch slips when car is hot" and fix your clutch pedal adjustment accordingly.

It shouldn't be slipping like that. FM is right. I had a similar setup but with more boost out of a 3071 and I was running an ACT Extreme PP with the Organic disc and it didn't slip.
