Looks like the US will get the 13:1 CR 155 HP that runs on 87 octane directly out of the 2013 Mazda3.

What a joke Mazda, seriously.

Oh, and ROFL, I got a "warning" from a moderator on m.net because I called out that fucktard Mark Booth for being a total asshat and defending Mazda's laziness.

So, tune and 93 octane should do this car wonders?

Call it laziness, call it cost savings, call it planning for fuel mileage, call it leaving room for the "tuner".

Also keep in mind, us that are enthusiasts make up a small portion of those who will be buying this car.

Edit* Maybe i'm the last person on this site who still daily drives a bone stock NB miata and knows how much fun can be had with only 100hp and 2300lbs.

I'm not concerned at all with the base HP numbers anyway. Aren't we all just going to pursue FI options, even if it came with 200 HP?

The biggest problem is deciding what color to get it in.

You are wrong, Erat. I daily a coilovers/wheels/tires 01 SE and I am absolutely disgusted at how pathetic this bullshit HP is. Why does it rev 1k higher than the 2.0 in the 3, but not make any more power?? WTF

Apparently there will be no cost savings. The guy at mnet that went to a focus group and nailed the HP rating several months ago also said the base price is 30k. The current one starts at 25k.

On 13:1 compression? The FRZ guys have 12.5:1 compression and they do it, but they get to start with 45 more hp, as well.

Yes, I mad, before anyone asks.

Well just think how the 'progressive' Europeans will 'only' get the 1.5 engine,, not the 2L one for US market. Choices? Would prefer to have a version obtaining the BEST gas mileage possible and if they can provide a 2L like the NC which runs on REGULAR gas and still obtain good gas mileage-Great.

My current and third Miata is a NC Touring PRHT will get 30-33mpg on Premium gas <which I really hate paying the 'premium price for'> and yes it will run on Regular 87octane gas albeit not quite as well; however, mileage drops to 25mpg to max of 27-28mpg. Overall costs per mile the same so I'm running Premium gas for the performance running better 'and' it's what Mazda recommends.
The first Miata was 1996 stock NA, and the second was a GEM of a find, a 1992 tricked out by PO who spent $20k in car setting it up to race, before cancer forced it's sale; and who replaced EVERYthing including new engine tuned for racing having all of 28k miles when it fell into my hands- used K&N cold air induction <but in a BOX was his Intercooler, Garrett Turbo complete with ALL parts except a pop-off valve ?? > and this 02 ran like a scaled dog to 8k on tach and still obtained 30-35mpg depending on how it was driven- this is a LONG story, near an end now after suing the garage who didn't know how to do timing belt job on Miata.

IF, and repeat IF, Mazda comes out with ND having a PRHT (sure they will but likely in 2017 as I'll bet they sell ever 2016 rag top they produce next year). Also, IF the ND with it's skyactive tech provides EQUAL driving performance to the NC plus run on Regular 87 gas.. then I will consider buying the new 2016/2017 ND Miata MX-5.

Mazda should also a Turbo model, MSM, model that flies low for the performance minded... or at least have ND which allows for the Mod folks.. who can add turbo and performance parts to get the ND the way the want it- great to live in America.

Current test drive reports seem to indicate that Mazda 'got it right' just as they did back in 1990. JAHO davzway

Why do you assume the 2.0 revs to 7.5k? That is what the 1.5 redline is set at. There has been no indication that the 2.0 will have anything different than the stock 6.5k redline from the 3.

We will get the 2.0 as well. As we allways have.
Chances are that it will have 165hp here like it has in the Mazda6.

I wrote that before doing more research. Another article stated the 2.0 will go to 7000. Autoblog also had a rumor of a Mazdaspeed, based on words from a Mazda guy. Either a turbo 1.5 or the 2.5 Skyactiv would be good, since Mazda apparently doesn't want to break a sweat by putting out more than 155 hp in a 2.0L in 2015.
