Hi Guys,


I read the thread a few posts down that compares various standalones so I have trying to do my homework however I have a few questions. FYI I am well versed with tuning, have extensive haltech and nistune experience and some Adaptronics experience but not on this platform. Cost is not particularly important , reliability, pnp and the ability to use factory sensors is paramount to me. I am NOT a electronics guy although I can figure it if needed, I don't want to assemble my own standalone or trouble shoot. I would rather be tuning.


Here is the feature set I need.
Needs to use factory triggers no trigger wheel stuff unless there is no option.
Needs to be compatible with COP
Need accurate electronic boost control
Need to be able to log oil pressure, temp, water temp, boost, knock voltage
Need to incorporate failsafes with above sensors
Need E85 capability with timing, boost and AF tables
Need good knock control
Need rock steady idle control, AC and power steering comp
Need the ability to control
Need accurate integration with WB. Ie minimal AF drift over time.
Aftermarket display and logging integration would be prefered
Canbus integration would be amazing

Here is what I Don't want
Don't really need autotune, not my thing
Don't care if it has launch control, 2 step, anti lag, its not a drag car
Don't need too much support, have enough experience with standalones.
Don't want to fidget around with the tune. Once its done it needs to simply keep working. ie its not a science project for me. I just want to tune and drive.


All this being said it seems I am left with 2 real choices due to pnp. Adaptronics select or the Ms3 Pro pnp setup. I have adaptronics experience but minimal ms experience on the tuning side. Sadly haltech is not pnp or this would be a done deal for me since I have the most experience with that. Keeping this in mind which would you suggest ?

The most popular tuning solution, hands down, on this forum is Megasquirt.
I don't think anything else even comes halfway close.
Both can do what you need easily, and normally people side towards MS because of the support and wealth of knowledge on here with them.
I've used the earlier Adaptronic too, not bad, but the lack of support was what finally made me switch.

 

Shouldn't be a choice at all. Call the guys at DIY, order a Megasquirt and be done with your ECU worries.

 

I know the haltech guys and Andy from adaptronic, and for 95% of applications re miata s I'm still saying MS pnp

 

I am aware that the forum uses MS predominantly how ever is there a glaring technical reason not to go Adaptronics ? One thing that concerns me is the COP issue. Not sure if I am reading correctly but Adapronics does not support the current COP options for this motor ?

Megasquirt supports the GM D585 coils. You should be worried about COPs with the D585s as cheap and easy to set up as they are.

 

Haltech does have PNP for Miatas. Just not in the Pro series, so i think that rules out knock control.

I love my Adaptronic Select, everything just works as it should. The engine protection features are pretty neat, and the flex fuel stuff works. My car drives as a factory car should (good idle, smooth power etc).

Where abouts are you located?

Little late to the party but I really like my Adaptronic PnP on my '94.

Also it does support sequential ignition and common ignition solutions like D585's or Toyota COP.

The support for the Adaptronic units might not be huge on forums like this from fellow users yet, but if you email their tech support they are extremely knowledgeable and the owner has a 13b-REW swapped NA Miata. True car guy that really knows his stuff, they run a tight ship over there and anytime I emailed with a question, I had a response within 24 hours.
