Hello! All the way from Puerto Rico
Hello! I recently picked up a NA Miata, its 1990 classic red with 120k miles on it. Ive been a fan of the little car for a few years and just recently got a job where i could afford such a hobby. Im hoping to learn tons from you guys and i will be trying to do things myself, despite having absolutely no prior experience with car stuff! Basic train of thought from the few posts ive already read here is that safest and best bet is to go for a 1.8 swap, get a prefabricated kit, get a megasquirt, learn the feel of the car and how its like to boost. And once i have a better understanding ill goin more in-depth afterwards! Let me know if im on rights path or if my noobiness is pouring from my pores right now!

The Megasquirt and wideband should be the first step. Then you can remove the AFM and make a little more power. You will enjoy learning to tune and how everything works. Then you can get bigger injectors and get ready for later adding the turbo.
You will need a 1.8 rear diff and axles before the turbo because they are weak and often fail at stock power. You will also need a stronger clutch. Stock 1.6 clutch won't hold any boost.
I miss the mofongo. What part of the island are you located?

I went there about 4 years ago. We stayed in SJ right near the big cockfighting arena near the airport.
