Default First Productive Post-All known SC's for Miatas

Before everyone gets their panties twisted, please hear me out

Since we are trying to integrate some understanding for the whine and cheesers, lol, it may be a good idea to bring the entire board up to speed on various blower kits available on the market and what their differences are...pros and cons in comparison to other blowers (not turbos) and what their reasonable power levels are and what EM the kits they come in utilize...

No, i am not intersted in one, so blow me! (pun intended :fm
My point is, since we will be entering discussions about these whining creatures, to have correct information not from their distributors but from the everyday consumers so "those few misguided souls" that are looking into SC's at least get to read real word examples vs. just add another PC-pro versions.

Lets be honest for just a split second, Turbos are not for everyone and neither is MS or EMU or any other standalone, some people are just better off with FPR's and fixed boost...{finsh zipping up major flame suit}

There's the M45 (Jackson Racing), the MP62 (Moss, FFS) and the MOAB (Begi). What else is there? Other than trying to jury-rig something off a GM 3800 (which is the MP62) or M-Benz (M45?) are there any other options? Why the hell is the MOAB a grand more than the FFS system? Yeah, the Begi system has an IC, but they're both rated about the same HP, so why bother with the extra parts and cost?

I want the feeling of a bigger engine (former Corvette & Mustang GT owner), without sacrificing the handling by stuffing in a Monster V8 conversion. Basically, I'd like my car to be able to keep up with soccer mom's minivan without being a coffee can exhaust and silly huge wing ricer. I wanna bolt it on and plug it in then go drive it. Yes, I know what some people think about PcPro type piggybacks. But I don't want to learn to program another f'ing computer, I want to plug in a connector and drive.

The only turbo I have driven enough to count is my brother's 1989 Probe GT. Feels like just another 4 banger in first gear, but when the boost kicks on in second, hang on. Holy FWD torque steer, Batman! But in my buddy's SC'd M-B, it just feels like it's got a big engine. No surprises, just more power.

So, talk me out of a SC.

They use a twin screw supercharger, not a roots. Twin screws use less power to make boost, and don't heat the air as much, as they are internall compression compressors. Twinscrew's are surperior in almost every way, except for cost to manufactur and they use more power when cruising, as they are always compressing. Roots blowers are externall compression, so bypassing them elinates compression, and they require little energy to spin under no load, and have cooler outlet temps out of boost.

Under boost, it's the opposite, the Twinscrew will deliver more boost more efficiently with less heat, and use less power doing it. That's why the Mother Of All Blowers kit uses them, because you need to start with the best. I'm doing a custom setup and my SC is also a twinscrew.

Oscar Jackson is allegedly designing a new system based upon a Rotrex centrifugal unit. Lots of pictures on the website, but no ordering info yet.

Kenne Bell seems to still be around with his twin-screw, air-water intercooled design. It's not on the official price list anymore, but it's still on the website.

There's the VF Engineering centrifugal unit still listed on the GoMiata website.

The BRP / SOT / FM MP62 is still alive and kicking.

Who was it that made a Vortech-based unit for a while? I'm drawing a blank...

his altima was broken if it only dynoed that as a baseline.

my 2000 altima ran a 15.7 bone stock, that thing should run a tad faster than mine in stock form, however it only ran a 15.1 with his awesome supercharger

I emailed them about a year ago and was told they no longer make or sell the miata kits, and they only have the pictures and info on their site for general advertising purposes. They said they didn't sell enough kits to keep making them. I asked them if there was any way they could start making them again and they said their just wasn't enough demand.

Nothing at all. It's just the part about "I wanna bolt it on and plug it in then go drive it". If I'm gonna fart around with something, I'll go all out and make some insane 300+HP monster. After all, if it's all home made, you might as well go all out, right?

Heres a comparison i made with various charts i found on the net between a custom rotrex setup, mp62 hotside intercooled and the mp62 coldside.

I cannot tell if the boost levels are accurate, since i have to go on what the charts op's said. Nevermind the scetchyness, i just PS'd the other two curves into the mp62 hotside's chart.

I found this comparison rather interesting. It seems the rotrex setup is built really good, or have a strong base engine.

That;s not how a rotrex will look....i've done my own comparisons.....

it looks like you used the same graph (rotrex 10psi Greek dude), but you surely didn't get the numbers correct....

Nope, used rotrex 10 psi brittish dude.
Greek dude (diver) only runs 7 psi, and i think, 4,5-5 psi in the dynopapers at m.net.

I found the numbers a bit peculiar, or at least the torque curve, but that said, the numbers are correct. Base engine layout (i.e. pistons, comp. ratio, cams) unknown on the rotrex engine.

In your comparisons, what is what?
