Default 6speed to 5speed

Hey guys I just picked up a 90 5speed transmission with shifter and I will be putting it into my 02 6speed miata for auto x reasons. I just wanted to know what I could use from my 6speed and what I need to buy to complete the swap. Thanks

transmission fluid... make sure you have the shifter as they're different... Your plate and starter will bolt up, you'll have to swap over the speed sensor and reverse switch (or solder nb reverse connector onto na trans).... I think thats it, but I've never done it. Google miata 6 speed swap as you're basically doing the same thing in reverse.

ahh thanks your answer is what I wanted to hear. Its also the complete opposite to what I got on club roadster haha. I was looking to reuse all my sensors from my 6 speed.

Nb starter will bolt up. Rewire reverse/neutral switches. Use 5speed shifter. Ppf, driveshaft, and clutch are all the same.

I'd also encourage you to find a 94+ 5speed at minimum. Preferrably a 99+ 5speed. The 90-93 boxes had a couple of issues and are generally less desirable.

Trust me I know the the 90 is not the best but I got it from a friend I auto x with who sold his miata. I plan to use it till it blow up lets hope thats a long time for now haha. If not I will swap back in the 6 speed and start shopping for a good 99+ 5speed.

I already have the 5speed shifter so I am good with that. Can I just reuse the sensors from my 6speed or do I have to rewire the 5speed sensors. Also what speed gear do I use I dont want my speedo to be off.

Rewire the 5speed sensors.

Remove the VSS from the 6speed and the mechanical gear from the 5-speed, make sure the gears look the same, then put the VSS sender in the 5-speed. Speedo will read the same.
