are the T2 trans really stronger? pretty sure I want something with an overdrive. what about a TKO Hurst Driveline Conversions TCET4618 Hurst Driveline TKO 500/600 5-Speed Transmissions
If I were building a no-holds-barred Miata track day/ autocross car (and didn't want to go broke), I think I'd build a Tex T101/ Jericho/ etc NASCAR trans from parts on ebay with a 1:1 top gear and a REALLY short first gear, and put a 3.08 geared Ford 8.8 in the back. You'd never break it, and I think it's the cheapest way into a bulletproof drive train. The ex NASCAR parts can be had for next to nothing if you're willing to buy everything piecemeal and put the trans together yourself, and an 8.8 from an IRS Mustang Cobra or possibly a 4.6L Thunderbird wouldn't set you back too much either.
If you wanted to street drive it at all a T2 trans is probably your best bet, but if you don't break transmissions I'd be afraid of stripping teeth off the ring gear in the toy rear end, instead.

How about using a AVCR boost controller to tone down peak torque a bit? If 4th is the only problem you can detune peak torque only in that gear. Kinda simple solution that will allow you to stick with the 6 speed.
The AVCR allows control of boost by RPM and boost by gear.

An RX7 gearbox seems to be the next logical step, before going full out crazy on a Jerico box or on a Quaife gear-set.
Luckily, the rx7 gearboxes are pretty cheap. Heck, the bellhousing adapter plate is 2-3x the cost of the gearbox itself. You only have to buy the adapter plate once, and you can probably pick up 3 rx7 gearboxes for the price of one six speed...

lol at guys saying "just buy more trannies"... what about the financial losses by paying for track time but pissing it away because you had to do a tranny swap at the track - if you can. You'll lose a good day especially if you're instructing as you're obligated to coach and wrench on your car when you can. It's a big headache for one, second is you get tired of doing it where it makes your time NOT having to swap out trannies even more valuable.
At a projected 400+ rwhp, and reading Bundys problems... I really am leaning toward saving my 6spd for the DD and doing something better for the track car... so I'm watching you Bob, I'm watching you

LOL this one was one I bought at Laguna Seca earlier this year and swapped in during the middle of the track day and managed to run sessions 1, 2, part of 3 and 5. it was really expensive to buy a Mazdaspeed tranny at the track and my wife took my credit card away after that one and gave me a card with a lower limit.
How many track days did you get on the MSM box? Were they all at the same reduced boost level? Breaking it at 280 ft-lbs has me a bit worried, I'm not far below that even though I've got a teeny weeny turbo.

They use the same guts as the RX8 transmission with a slightly different case. ISC Racing has rebuilt a bunch of them and claims it isn't a very reliable transmission in racing for the RX8s. But he can definitely rebuild them.

Why not RX-7 5-speed?

Sorry for the derail, but seriously guys, if you break **** at MRLS and you need tools/parts/extra hands with something, PM me and I'll get you my cell number if I'm around.
