That the OP get your "insane deal?" Where exactly would he get that? If your "insane deal" isn't regular price by a company, what are you recommending? That the customer buy something that doesn't exist because you bought it? Hint: If you're giving advice and you tell someone to buy something that doesn't exist because /you bought it/... that's bad advice. So given that your "justification" for buying 7" is completely irrelivant to the OP, the advice should be ignored. 6UL = FTW. |
6ul wheels are nice but they arent the only fucking wheels out there! cmon guys, why the hell are you so obsessed about 6uls?! there are PLENTY more wheels out there.
going back to original discussion: 15x7 w/ 205/50/15 tires are ultimate daily driver wheels/tires setup for miata in my opinion. there really isnt a reason to go wider then that. now, of course you can find 15x7 wheels that will cost double of lets say 6uls or any other similar 15x8/15x9 wheels out there. then, on the other hand, there are SHITLOAD of 15x7 wheels that will be WAY cheaper then 15x8 and 15x9. also, do not include my car into equation because its much much closer to a race car then a daily driver so ultimately i would run 15x9 myself but then, i can easily dump $3k into wheels/tires if i wanted to which is not an option for OP. in my opinion, you guys are just trying to push your beliefs of what looks cool on the street to OP while i am trying to suggest something PRACTICAL for daily driving. whats the point of a daily driver? to get you from point a to point b safely, while not wasting lots of gas, and last thing on the list should be "looking cool". yeah, i understand that everyone wants their car to look "dope" with 9" wheels and be practical at the same time but its simply not possible. with wider and HEAVIER wheels and tires gas mileage WILL suffer. its a fact. you know it, i know it, even my girlfriend knows it! will 15x7 wheels w/ 205/50/15 tires perform well on the track? hell yeah they will! look at spec miata for gods sake! |

For a DD I'm with Urban on this. There are a LOT of 15x7 wheels out there that run as little as half what new 6ULs run, and some weigh nearly as little.
If I were baller and had the money I'd get 6ULs though...15x9 at the same weight as 14x5.5 "daisies"...that's not playing around folks. |
If you think 205's are good for a DD, then you don't have much power.
I had 15x8 6UL's with 225/45 NT-01's and I would still spin through first and second. I repeat: If you think 205's are good, you're not even near the limit of a stock engine. |

He ended up getting 15x9 rims anyway (I believe), so I'd /assume/ that he's making or going to be making power. :P

You want something practical? A set of free stock Daisies and Falken 912s in 185/60-14. $32 per tire, wheels are free, get the whole thing mounted and balanced for about $160. Oh, those don't LOOK good enough for you? For the record, spec miata is limited to a 13lb 15X7. Most quality 15X8/9s are lighter. There are A LOT of 15X7 that are catered to the spec miata crowd that are heavy at 13lb. Further, I'm sure every spec miata racer would kill for a 225 on an 8 or 9, but that is not a choice in the rules. A spec miata on a 225 and 9s (not really a spec miata) would win that race EVERY TIME.

Savington, biggest gas mileage reducer is drag. especially drag from rotating tire. un-sprung weight doesnt make it any better either.
again, im not saying that 15x7 will perform better then 15x8/9 on track. of course it wont! as for alternatives to 6uls, there are ATS and konig rewinds that come in 15x8 with usable offset. and yes, i would gladly roll on daisies on the street if they would clear my brakes. unfortunately they dont :/ |
