Default Ebay clutches?

I've got my motor out because I needed to correct a RMS leak and install a coolant reroute. I'd like to upgrade the clutch before putting everything back together. I've been running the stock clutch (disc has less than 5k miles on it) and it's been holding up to 11psi on T25 just fine, although I'm sure it wont hold up to much more than that. Point is I don't need much of an upgrade, just a mild upgrade. I've been considering the Exedy stage 1, or an ACT, but I've been seeing so many cheap ebay clutches I'm wondering if any of them are worth it. I'd much rather spend $125 on a clutch instead of $300.

I want a new clutch too, considering one of the ebay clutches. But I'm starting to realize that its best to get **** done right the first time. You don't want to end up wasting time and money.

If you get the ebay clutch let us know how it works for you.

I'd give exedy a shot. they seem to be great on other cars, though not many run them on miata: reasons unknown.

I have that XTD stage 3 in mine and so far so good. I think if I could go back I would have just forked over the dough for something better considering it took a week to change that clutch out and I would rather not go through that experience again...but whatever.

Well I'm looking more towards a stage 1 or 2. I want a full-faced disc since driveability is extremely important. I live in NYC and the traffic is often horrendous here. A 6 puck would drive me mad.

Yeah definitely don't get the 6 puck if this is your commuter.

I feel like an idiot at lights/stop signs with my ebay 6-puck, as I have to rev it fairly high to get a non jerky start, which probably sounds like I don't know how to drive a stick. Otherwise it works like magic. Those starts would be all you do during traffic though, so I'd avoid.

I had an XTD 6 puck, then my trans went out cause i drove it like a jack-hole. Barking third gear was kinda fun on a na motor. Damn 19 year olds. Any who, i took it out when my trans died, it was in there for about 6k, so i can't complain, or comment on it's long term. I had a clutch guy rebuild a factory one with different material, and i still use the pressure plate that came with the XTD and i love whats in there right now. He said it would be good for about 250 lb/ft. It wasn't so bad once i got used to it though.

F1 stage 3 has been reliable. Tyson87 and levnubhin both had it in their cars; tyson is at ~240whp and lev is at ~280 whp. I never got to install mine cause my **** got wreck. If anyone want to try a 1.6 stage 3 clutch pm ill let go of it cheap.

the ebay clutch is the best bang for your buck on any 250 whp or less miata out there bar none the cost/performance is very satifying. And the quality is as good or better than an oem product.

i got the xtd stage 3 clutch/flywheel kit its not bad for the price, but im switching it out for a fidanza 4.3 setup. i dont like the pedal feel or the screech noise it sometimes makes if im not perfect with the engagement.... i know i can make mine slip, i forget what its rated at, but i think its fine for 250hp and under.... it takes 15-18psi from my vj20/vf8 hyrbid all day long, but i can tell its not gonna last me as long as id want, and im pretty easy on the clutch...lol... honestly a stronger pressure plate , if they have one, would be a good step, somethign stage 4, cause i still say this pressure plate feels stock....lol...

did you resurface your flywheel and is your throwout bearing good? becouse it shouldn't screech at all under normal conditions.

it came with the 12lb one, i just cleaned it and slapped it on. and its not the t.o.b. i can spray the clutch disc with a tiny shot of wd40 and it goes away, so i left it be, itll just waste it anyways, and im not soaking the disc making it useless...lol... i got the fidanza free with my build motor, theyll go in together...

this is the one i used, with a timken t.o.b. for my car instead...

Well it isn't my daily driver but traffic jams are a way of life here. I'm even thinking of just upgrading my pressure plate since I have only 5k miles on a brand new Exedy OEM disc. The only company that sells pressure plates separately is ACT and from what I've read I don't think I'll like the way it feels.
