Default ebrake light issue

Repost from m.net because nobody answered it:

I know the ebrake light can be on if the fluid is low or if the switch is problematic. My brake light dims when I release the ebrake but stays on. Then when I pull it back up it gets brighter. In examining the switch it appears that it is simply a mechanism that grounds the wire when the ebrake is engaged, and opens the circuit (turning the light off) when the ebrake is disengage.

Since my light stays on but changes brightness based on engaged or disengaged, any idea how to fix my dash light?

Thanks
Frank

Sounds like a high resistance short to ground somewhere in the line to the switch or at the gauge cluster. More than likely the wire is pinched somewhere.

A customer of mine used that wire to ground his autometer A/F gauge. Had the same issues.

I had no ground in that area, though I do ground some stuff under the front right bolt that holds down the shifter boot. I think this issue was with the car before I did the swap, and before I had the dash out multiple times. Could it be a bad fluid level switch that's constantly grounded?
