Looking like a real interesting thread. Keep it up.

Yeah.. They would not fit with my 16" Volks either, or some crappy noname 17"s I had kicking around. They all hit the spokes.

Ahhh, i see how it doesn't fit. Hmm, might have to run wheel spacers then :(

Man I really hope I dont have that problem.

just got home from work and the camara is dead. time to hunt for the charger then ill yank off the 1.8l shit so you can see how they dont hit. but if you look at the spokes you can get an idea of the amount of room these have.

(yes i know my car is a beat pile of shit. if anyone has a black fender for sale around chicago let me know!)

M-Tuned 04-20-2010 05:50 PM

I really dont want to have to run +0 offset wheels to make it possible to run these. I would, however, consider a wheel spacer plus flares.

a spacer on the 15x9 tr motorsports wheels would work i can try and get a pic that tomorrow to. but as for now my charger is lost and the g1 cam sucks so it will have to wait

I saw earlier mentioned sport miata rotor, but is that the same thickness as the RX7 unit?

both 22mm thick according to racingbrake

He was right, he saw earlier mention of sport rotors which is what i'm using. I do not want to use Corrado rotors. Their larger size will not do me any good since they aren't vented.

shlammed 04-20-2010 08:46 PM

ok, and both of those are 22mm?

Hmmm...

I am intrigued.
i have a set of spare knuckles that im interested in trying.

What about the back? im unfamiliar with rx7's what did they use in the back for an emergency brake?

I dont know if they are 22mm.

RX7 rear brakes, from what i've seen, look much like miata rear brakes but slightly larger. So they have the ebrake function unlike many aftermarket calipers.

its cable on the back of the rx7 like a miata the monstermiata kit uses rx7 rears. but i think you could get away with an adjustable prop valve and the mtuned rears just fine.

Someday i'll be baller enough to buy 2 piece rotors.

wayne_curr 04-21-2010 09:21 PM

How thick do you guys think the caliper bracket should be? I'm pricing metal right now and not sure what to get.

.5" aluminum would be affordable but not sure if that's thick enough. I may just use steel to get everything roughed together and think about going with aluminum in the future if it proves to be a significant weight advantage. Would .25" steel cut it?

i was thinking .5" steel. steel isnt that bad its what the mtuned brackets are and no one complains about them. id rather the extra weight then a caliper through my wheel.

Agreed. I'm having a hard time finding .5" steel plate though :(

try mcmaster.com ?

I will be doing custom brakes of some sort this summer.. I am liking this setup bigtime!

wayne_curr 04-22-2010 01:50 PM

Its not going to work. I'd have to space my wheels atleast 1/2", maybe even 5/8" from the rotors to fit these wide ass calipers. :(:(:(:(

/thread

240_to_miata 04-22-2010 01:53 PM

I still might try it this summer. I plan on doing bodywork / paint/ wheels anyway.. Id run some 16 x 9 wheels with a 25mm spacer and some flaresall around so i can have big ass brakes.

I just need to find wheels I actually like in 16"
