Ground Control Coilovers install question
Good morning all,
I am hoping to install my new coilovers tomorrow and was just going over a few things...
I have Tokico shocks that these will be mounted to and there were some vauge instructions that came with the package. Now, I have new shock top mounts, FCM bumpstops, and all the related bits and pieces; but don't quite understand what the handwritten note is saying that came with the coilovers and WTF is going on with all of these damn O-rings in the kit.
Anyone here already do the installation on an NB with Tokico shocks, GC Coliovers, and FCB bumpstops? I would like to ask some more questions about basic settings so that I can get the car close before taking it for the alignment / corner weighting. Also would like to know what it is that I am supposed to grind off, and how important it is that the grinding be perfect... should I take it to a machine shop? Or hit it myself?
Would love to know more about what you all have done and what's the best way to do it

With the Tokico's there's no grinding required. Just slip them on. The AGX's require grinding. As for the O rings, I have no clue. They're still sitting in my tool box.
As for ditching the tokicos for agx's I have to disagree based on all the reading I did over on mnet.

We will see which is better... nice thing about this setup is that it is cheap and modular!
BTW, thanks guys for the input! So the O-rings are maybe used as **** rings for later on when the car is a chick magnet... lol
Oh, so no grinding on the shock! Cool!!! How about any spacers needed between the collar and shock body? Heard that some people have stuffed rubber in there to keep from getting knocking... any truth to this?

The O-Rings are for shiming the shockbody to take up slack between it and the GC Sleeve. I didn't use mine, way too ******* hard to get on.

Some shocks need the rings, some don't. Shaik (sp?) has a real good install write up on his web page. Very detailed and lots of pics.

Well I got all of my parts yesterday and have done the deed!
Hope to install them today; once the broken civic is out of my garage. (Friend's car broke down and ended up in my place for repairs... geez, I'm too nice sometimes.)
A couple of notes from my setup:
Did not have to grind anything
Seemingly everything fit together with no issues; but I did have to use O-rings to keep the threaded perch from wobbling.
Learned that Gorilla Glue is the ******* ****!!!!

I installed GC's on my B13 SE-R with the O-rings before I read about a better way. On the AGX's I had (not sure about your Tokiko's) the threaded perch would **** to one side over time when using the O-rings and the spring would rub on the threads. No real harm done as it was the very top of the threads that I never used, but it sounded like pop corn when I was pulling in a driveway, or something. A better method I find out was to wrap the shock body in a couple of layers of duct tape until the threaded sleeve was a very tight fit sliding down on the shock body over the duct tape. Basically shim it to fill the gap instead of using the O-rings. Anyway, I know you already assembled yours, but figured I'd share.

The spring perch on the Illuminas DOES NOT come off. It's not like the AGX's. The way you have it is correct.
