I just removed my PS lines and plugged the holes with the miata roadster plugs. I'm not doing the full FM depower, too much work.

The hardest part was figuring out what hole to plug when the wheel was turned. You have to plug one hole when the wheel is turned to the right limit, then plug the other when the wheel is turned to the left limit. This kept all the air out of the system. I can see how someone might get air trapped in there and think that it is too difficult to turn. I also had the front wheels of the ground to make it easier to purge the fluid and identify if any air got trapped.

I too removed it from my street/yet to be track driven car.

Never mind the weight saved; IMO the new road feel is the best part about it.

Do what I did:
take the belt off the crank, ps, and ac
drive around for a few days
if you like it, THEN decide to gut the whole system.
And if you don't like it, just put the belt back on.

This is not a good way to try it out IMO. The steering input is going to feel harder than a permanent depower. Maybe if you drain all of the PS fluid out of the rack, but otherwise, no.

Yeah, I was thinking if he liked it without a belt, then a full depower would be a luxury.

Depower it by the FM method, do it once, and do it right. I depowered mine this summer and have about 15 or 20 thousand miles on it since without difficulty. However, there is a thread on M.net about welding the input shaft on a power rack to reduce play in the steering that might be helpful. I plan to redo my depower setup with a welded input shaft this summer.

my FM depower rack got some play and especially when I ride on bumpy road. I am going double check all the u-bolts are on tight before I change it to manual steering rack. My car was all over the place after I depowered the steering rack during last track day.

Depowered unless you are going to be paralell parking alot with uber sticky/uber wide tires. My car was a dd for 4 years with no problems.

Powersteer. It makes long days of driving, emergency manuvers and driving weekends (read 2 full day events back to back) more fun and less stressful.

Im sure you get a little better feel... but its a miata, not a minivan.
If your seriously worried about weight in your miata, your either racing competetively, not boosted or are high on meth.

Also the "no problem" comments make me lol. Doesnt mean its fun to drive afterhand...

Im going to cross a line, say that i drift... and it comes in VERY handy for what i use my car for.

I seriously see no positives in having PS in a Miata. Mine is my DD, I've driven it literally across the country, with 225s and lots of caster. It's very fun to drive, has great steering feel, a no-nonsense clutter free engine bay, etc.

It's not like I have a body builder's body, as the people here who've met me can attest. I just don't see the issue with it.

I've been Mr. Universe 8 times (that's once more than Ronnie Coleman) and I only miss the power-steering when backing up my faggy tire trailer into the garage at your mother's house.
