Going in tomorrow to pull her, gonna have a friend finish her up and fix the intercooler piping, set up a time with the tuner on monday, hopefully we'll have her running soon.

Get your money back, they didn't do their job.

Tell them to go Fab your intercooler the right way. You know with the swaybar where it was meant to be.

yeah my sway bar is in the way too. It goes right through my IC pipe...oh wait, I forgot about depth.

Time to learn to do this type of stuff yourself, OP. I bet getting the tools (a saw, a file, etc.) is either break-even or cheaper than paying a shop's labor rate. I even bought a fancy mitre saw and still only spent around $100 on tools (for the intercooler fab job, anyway). This forum is a great resource for DIYers, there's no reason to go to a shop unless they have equipment you need and it wouldn't be feasible for you to buy said equipment (a tire changer, wheel balancer, alignment rack, and for some, a welder).

When I did my last Ic project I got a 3" cutting wheel from HF for like 30 bucks and nailed a good straight 2X4 to a pallet. I then pushed the 2.5 pipe against that 'jig' to hold it steady and rotated the pipe to make somewhat clean cuts. A few moments with a die-grinder and it was decent enough for welding. I used a sharpie to mark all the parts that were going to be welded (I ended up with 4 welds and the BOV IIRC) and took it all to a good welder. He had no trouble with it. The welding was like 80 bucks. and the setup was exactly what I wanted.

Getting your cash back would be great, but I think your right to take it somewhere else rather than let them do anything else on your car. If they were capable of doing a competent job they would have the first time. Give those retards another crack at it and you will probably be unable to close the hood or something.

We went with the shop not because we cant do the work, but because neither I nor my bf had time, we pulled the motor and tranni and did a few other things, but then it sat for 4 months and i wanted my car running so we turned to the shop.

Well you see what happens when you give up and turn to a "shop."

Make sure when you go, you ask them what made them think taking out the front sway bar was a good idea. Seriously.

I made IC pipes myself having just an assortment of pipes, couplers, clamps, and a saw. If a shop cant handle "fabbing" up IC pipes, they should be pretty damn embarrassed.

I would tell them you want money back. Pull the car first though, this way they wont intentionally fuck more things up just out of spite.

Sorry to hear about the bad shop experience. This is also another reason why I like to DIY. :bigtu:

Then again, I've seen some marvels in design from some of the "big name" Miata turbo kit peoples (/sarcasm)

UPDATE: took the miata to a fabricator, he said the easiest way to do things is mount the sway bar backwards and use hym joints. Essentially making the sway bar more effective. Fuel is still not fixed, and neither is wide band.

The sway bar mount on the passanger side is busted anyways and the bushings are done. It'll be mounted a 1/2inch lower than stock.

My vote is to fix the mount and leave the sway bar in it's intended spot. :2cents:

So now that's 2 shops that want to change the sway bar setup in order to route IC pipes? :facepalm:

Leave the damn sway bar how its supposed to be and find someone that has a HS education that can fab up some IC pipes for christ sake! :vash:

If turning around the sway bar was more effective everyone would be doing it. Of course maybe this is an AH HA moment. These two shops may now prove every car made in the last 40 years has been running the sway bar the wrong way!

Thousands of Miatas have intercoolers with the sway bar in properly. Yours is the first that needs the sway bar reversed.

Did the first shop mount the IC in such a way that you have to move the bar? As in, the outlet is 1 inch from it or something?

What diameter is the IC piping? Got any pics? I'd love to see the IC piping..
