I have the shorty in the MSM and the tall/angled in the track car. Both are excellent. Both 6 speeds are MSM and the bushing can take a LONG time to get it. I've thought it wasn't fitting also but grease it up a bit and gently spin it around (like a Hustler rim job... :giggle: ). It will eventually fall in the hole with almost no effort when its ready.

I got the long angled arm for my 04MSM and it everything went in smoothly without issue fwiw.

Are you talking about the Delrin bushing?

Hi Ben, I suggest buying the shifter and replacing the bushing with a metal unit like the 5X racing or beatrush.

Well now that's ticking me off a bit. I didn't buy the metal units because they didn't list the late 6 speed as an application and not a single vendor could confirm if it would work or not.

So... i bought the Delrin bushing separately because it was advertised as fitting the late 6 speed. :brain:


I don't really want the shifter at all. I did however, buy a full shifter rebuild kit from another vendor. Just wanted a better bushing than stock in there when i got around to it. Would prefer to use the bushing i already spent my cash on, but if it doesn't work right, then it doesn't work right.

Should i take this thread as confirmation that one of the metal units will work in the late 6spd?

I would love the answer to that as well. I'm supposedly getting one of these short shifter kits in the next shipment.

Sometimes they go right in and sometimes they take 10 minutes to fit. Don't force it or wedge it in. Slow and steady with some gentle rotation and it will suddenly slip in without a thousandth of play in any direction.

I guess I got one of the ones that just falls right in because I had no trouble with my metal bushing.

So is 5x as good as beatrush?

I agree with the cost to benefit point but remember to have the shifter fluid changed to make shifting smoother. This small maintenance detail makes a big feel difference.

5-speeds are all the same.

I installed my normal height MR short shifter today and changed the transmission oil to Amsoil 75w90. The shifter feels great and I recommend it. I had problems with the 4-5 shift but that is gone now. I cant say I felt a difference from the tranny fluid but its good to know that that bit of maintenance is taken care of.
