I recently did a rear main seal on my nb2. It was the first clutch/flywheel/rms job I've ever done. When I did it, the weeping hole was leaking and there was an obvious snail trail when I removed the flywheel. Fast forward to a couple months later and I have oil out of the weeping hole again. I thought I must've messed up the RMS install, but I used the FM tool for installing it so I couldn't imagine how. Eventually I pulled the engine and yesterday got the clutch/flywheel off. I did not have the telltale snail trail. Instead, there was a little bit of oil just everywhere. On the flywheel itself, from the center where the pilot bearing goes, there was a "starburst" pattern of oil splatter as if oil was being flung out from the center. Is this a sign that the flywheel bolts where leaking oil? I used blue loctite during the install, but honestly not sure if I used enough. If you think that was the cause of the oil leak, any suggestions on how to apply the blueloctite or is there another type of thread sealant I should use instead? I didn't see any signs the leak was coming from the oil pan gasket either.

I used Permatex thread sealant instead of loctite. Shouldn't screw with torque values.

I ended up using high heat permatex thread sealant instead of loctite on my second go around. I haven't been able to run the car long enough to know if it is definitely fixed, but so far nothing is spitting out.

So you're sure its not the rear main seal? You can see some of this if you have too much blowby. Worn compression rings cause the crank to pressurize a bit too high and can force oil past the rear main seal. Open your oil cap while the engine is running and see if you have lots of blowby. It could be your crankcase is not venting through the pcv valve properly as well Let us know what you find.
