Any ideas what this noise is? It's a constant humming that gets louder the faster the car goes. It's not dependent on gear selection, or engine RPM.
The wheel bearing are original as far as I know.
Also has a VLSD, fluid was changes 7 months ago

 

have you jacked the car up and checked the wheel bearings for play? That being said, it sounds like rear end noise to me. VLSD=6" rear end afaik, wouldn't surprise me.

 

Is the noise there at lower speeds?
If so and you were to swerve left and right will the noise change?

I dont notice the noise below 40 MPH or so, doesnt seem to change at all with turning.

There wasn't any play a few weeks ago when I changed my suspension.

The noise has been there for almost a year, it's just never bothered me until now..

 

It doesn't seem like a good idea to be doing 100+mph on possibly bad wheel bearings. That being said, it kinda sounds like the tire noise my truck use to make. Does the car seem to vibrate? Assuming the noise does not stop when you put the clutch in, I'd say its something behind the clutch in the drive train if not the wheel bearings. Harmonic balancer?

Same noise happened with different tires. ziex ze912s to be exact, now running shitty Kumho Ecsta ASTs

The car doesnt vibrate at all, wheels are rotated and balanced every time the oil is changed.

The noise only happens at speeds above 45MPH or so, and gets louder as I go faster. doesn't matter what RPM the motor is at.

All clutch components are brand new. FM stage 1, same thing happened with the temporary f1 racing clutch.

 

Since the noise does not change side to side and happened with different tires I would say its your diff. Sounds like a torsen swap is in the near future for you.

That's what I figured.. Just wanting some reinforcement.
Any ideas on how long the diff will last? I have babied the damn thing since I've owned the car

 

There is no telling could be tomorrow or a year from now. Better off getting it fixed soon while there may be some value in what you have.
