can't you just pull a fuse for the light to turn off?

Braineack 04-06-2009 02:49 PM

you can, but isn't it easier to simply tie the wires together or wire in a resistor while you have the connector exposed?

you can also do it under the dash, where the blue/orange connector feeds into the steering wheel.

boileralum 04-06-2009 03:01 PM

I am also using the cheap ebay hub ($15 shipped or something). Also, you can de-pin the blue connector so you don't have to cut the hub or anything, and tape up the 2 unused wires. I did not search for the resistor size needed, and am just living with the airbag light for now. It was already on b/c myairbag module was beeping incessantly and I had unplugged it.

i like the back one only cause the rest of the interior is black .

Remind me to not ride in your car.

like i said, if you go up under the dash, the connector that feeds into the steering wheel is there, blue/orange connectors...

It's on my to-do list now, ;) I may be swapping in a 99 dash, so it's not currently high on the priority list (#1 is waiting for the weather to clear so I can finish bolting on all the turbo goodies).

make sure you get a 3 ohm resistor that's pretty tight tolerance.

Pretty much what wound up happening. :-(

ismael_pt 04-06-2009 05:25 PM

3 ohm resistor also works with my 2001

p51hellfire 04-06-2009 07:45 PM

I removed the light but mine now beeps...... so I'm in for destroying the buzzer!! just have to find it first :jerkit:

What is the general consensus on D cut wheels? I've heard pretty much nothing but bad things about them. For a Miata it seems like they'd make the most sense, clearing up a bunch of leg room below the wheel. I've noticed them popping up on several vehicles from the factory as well.

I think of all the wheels here, Brain's $25 wheel + hub seems the best option for me. I just cant get past the size...320mm seems extremely small.

boileralum 04-06-2009 08:50 PM

D cut wheels are for ghetto cruisers. If you actually drive your car (and why else would you have a miata unless you are tryin to pick up dudes), get a circular wheel.

Ya, i understand what you are saying (kind of) but that isn't exactly the answer to the question I was looking for lol. I still feel like a D cut wheel would increase drivability.

boileralum 04-06-2009 09:08 PM

You can't smoothly slide your hands around a d-cut wheel. It may be more comfortable when traveling in a straight line, but I think it could be downright dangerous when you need to react quickly because the shape your hands feel will not be constant. You can gain leg/ knee clearance by 1) choosing a smaller diameter wheel or 2) do a foamectomy to lower you in the seat or 3) buy different seats that are lower to the floor. Between the foamectomy and the 10mm smaller radius (20mm smaller diameter) wheel, I now have about 3/4" an inch more clearance than I did with the stock seat and steering wheel.

Yeah, great answer there. Now can you try again please? I'm thinking about getting a D cut wheel.

He hadn't seen your second, more sensible post when he wrote that i'm guessing.

Makes some sense. I still question it. Again my logic questioning it is that they are beginning to be popular from the factory in many cars.

I'm at 340mm, i wouldn't mind smaller... It's only 1.18" less diameter than stock...that's like a pinky finger segment on each side.

you should see pschmit's wheel. I think it's like 290mm or something crazy.

Name some of these many cars for me. I admit I have let my subscriptions to the new car mags lapse over the years, but I haven't seen a single new car that piqued my interest that has a D cut wheel. If my first reply to your questioned seemed harsh, I apologize, but I am of the "Mod for a purpose" school of thought. And that purpose in my cars almost always is Performance, and a D-cut wheel offers no performance gains, and likely a disadvantage, IMO.

I have a Mazdaspeed wheel with a Daikei hub with the airbag harness. The MS wheel has a nice and thick rim.
