Makes some sense. I still question it. Again my logic questioning it is that they are beginning to be popular from the factory in many cars.

Correct, looks like we posted at the same time. I'm with you on this one though, I still don't buy it. I imagine that over time one would become subconsciously aware of the shape of the steering wheel and wouldn't have any trouble with it.

I'm fond of my momo prototipo, though it does obscure the gauges somewhat at my current seating height. Should be fine once i put in a momo start seat and get a little closer to the floorpan.

I am also running a daikei hub.

Also, in response to one of the posts above, if you disconnect both the blue and orange connectors from the harness under the steering column, you will have no horn. The blue one is the airbag, and the orange one is the horn, fyi. (on an NA6 anyway).

yes, only disconnect the blue one, not the orange...

I ordered a Works Bell from Bill at miataroadster.com. He then told me he had no idea when he would get one in stock due to a vendor issue, and so he got me a Daikei sent straight from Japan in about a week to make up for it.

Considering how hard those things are getting to find, I was happy either way.

Knockoff Nardi Taniguchi classic wheel on ebay for <100. Its the sechs. Has everything the Nardi wheel has minus the price and it was practically designed for our cars.

Lev-I have had an NRG D wheel for over a year, I love it. I also have a NRG quick release hub, it brings the wheel closer to me and makes getting in and out a lot easier since I have a bucket seat.
It takes a little getting used to, but it has yet to slow me down at an auto-x, if anything I feel it helped due to it's smaller diameter and closer proximity. ( I have no PS)
Overall, I am very happy with the package. It is a little bit mroe difficult to get in and out of the car, but that's mostly due to the seat I would say, not the fact that the wheel is closer.

Ditto.

Its nice hearing some feedback from an actual user.

Here are some factory D cut wheels:

Fucking ricer cars and their god damned D cut steering wheels. Who do Audi, Mercades and BMW think they are?

I still have yet to hear an actual negative to having a D cut wheel other than it looks ricey, which I can agree with since all the aftermarket wheels do in fact look ricey.

Sparco 383. Love it. It's now half suede and half leather....if it was all suede i'd be a SoCal CR'r :giggle:
No vision problems and i'm 5'11.

I see a small contradiction in my statement, let me clearify.

It is more difficult to get in and out of the car because of the bucket seat and the steering being closer to the seat.
However, by having the quick release, removing the wheel is a breeze and makes getting in and out easier. If I had the stock seat, I forsee getting in and out unchanged.
Hope this makes sense.

Looks awesome.

For those with gage visibility or leg clearance issues, try the steering column column mount spacer removal mod. Very easy, reversible, and raised the wheel about 3/8" on my '94.

Saml01 06-16-2009 10:53 AM

^ I might have to do this. I wish I had a little more leg room.

I pulled up to a 1959 Triumph TR3 that had like twice the leg room then my miata. Then I proceeded to rape him in stop light race because I'm jealous.
