Default Supermiata Sport Clutch

Our new Sport Clutches will be in stock around July 15th or so. The website will state "In Stock" and allow you to add to cart when they are here and ready to ship, not before. No pre orders IOW.
B6 & BP versions. Hybrid disc is organic facing on one side, fiber-carbon on the other. Puck disc is four paddle type, sprung and unsprung options. Order with flywheel to make a "Clutch Buffet".
These are completely USA built clutches. Proprietary from the ground up from a new supplier. The 1.6 hybrid version has been in my race car for about a year now. Maybe 50 full power standing starts on hot race tires and 50hrs of race pace.
Hardware is guaranteed forever against breakage (not wear or abuse). Very light pedal, lots of capacity. Throw out and pilot bearings are SKF supplied by Exedy. Took a while to get everything just the way we wanted it but I'm very happy with the final product.

Visit the website for more details.

Excuse my ignorance but what is the reasoning for offering 1.6 and 1.8 options? I see there is a 2 lb difference in flywheels and the 1.8 is rated for higher torque most likely due to its larger size. Is this geared for the hardcore track user where the difference in weight is enough to dictate two version?

B6 is much lower MOI. I use a B6 assembly in every car I build, provided the clutch has enough torque capacity.

On a related note, we have made some significant progress in getting our non metallic discs for the twin back into production. Should have samples in a few weeks. I wore out my last set of organics and miss that rev happy monster.

Oh good, Mr. Mobius thought twin ceramics would be good enough while Mrs. Mobius daily drove the car for a week or two. I informed him he was wrong, FM clutch went back in.

How much different are these than the earlier version? The hybrid sounds interesting, this would be a pnp for the earlier clutches?

Yep, we stuck to OEM Dimensions so our disks will be cross-compatible with just about anybody else's pressure plate including our generation 1 sport clutch.

Ms Mobius is badass. Don't underestimate Ms. Mobius. But yeah that was a mistake on my part. Put me on the pre-order short list for the new and improved discs, please.

Hmm... thoughts on a mostly daily street driven, 2554@10psi (stock internals and likely will stay that way for a while), light (1500lbs), 225 888's car? B6 puck or BP hybrid...

I'm leaning towards B6 puck with the lightweight flywheel, but have mild concerns about driveability (I drove with a 3 puck for a while and hated it). This is also a sub, so hopefully I don't have to keep checking your page...

Our B6 flywheel allows the drivetrain to make quite a bit of noise. Our BP flywheel is 4lbs heavier and keeeps the drivetrain silent. B6 good for race cars, BP for street where NVH is a concern.

Not the right thread, but are there any plans to offer the twin disc again in the future?

I am Not sure what you're asking. We have always offered the twin disc. We discontinued the organic version a few years ago when our supplier could no longer make those discs properly. What I was referring to was that we have been on the lookout for a new supplier for those organic discs and we managed to get some prototypes made. I hope they work out.

Ah, sorry. I check the availability every few months and it's always been out of stock when I look. Good stuff on finding another organic version supplier (or potential, at least).

You must just have bad timing. The twin is a regular stocking item.

For those that are curious. our race twin weighs around 14 lbs with flywheel. The B6 clutches have a significantly lower MOI than the same weight BP clutch so factor that in. In general, I recommend B6 clutches for race cars that are either N/A or low boost. BP for everything else. The B6 clutch and light flywheel is noisey, buzzy, lots of NVH. The BP, even with billet steel lightflywheel, has just enough weight to quell almost all NVH but still revs a lot faster than OEM.

I'm probably just being pedantic, but the BP clutch says it comes with an optional (vendor unknown) 10.5lb forged steel flywheel SuperMiata Sport Clutch Kit Miata BP

Is that different from the Exedy 11.3lb forged steel flywheel you sell here? Exedy Miata Flywheel

Did you determine 10.5lb as a better flywheel weight, maybe specifically when paired with this new clutch supplier?
