Default Toyo R1R Discontinued?

My dealer told me the only places that still sell these are running on left over stock. I cried, but can't find any confirmation on this.. can anyone confirm? I did email Toyo just now so I'll let u know if they reply.

Imo this was a very nice option for some 225/45 R15. As this size becomes harder to find in some nice grippy tires that are still cost effective, what are the other options? The Nankang NS-2R will only go to 205 on 15s for the European market :( The newer Yokohama A052 are expensive af.

I'm not looking for semi slicks. I need some half decent wet grip like the R1R had and not to wear extremely fast when taking it for a couple thousand miles on the streets.

EDIT: Just got confirmation they stopped producing them for the European market. And that there is not yet a direct follow up for this type. So I asked for the reason and where they still are in production. The story is that all Dot 2019 and newer tires must have S2WR2 markings in Europe. Its basic purpose is to increase the safety and environmental and economic efficiency of road transport by the measurement of fuel-efficiency, wet grip and tyre noise. As you may understand... the R1R, but also other "summer tires" that are heavily performance oriented run into problems here.

I should note that they are allowed to be sold here until 2021. But Toyo stopped supplying them to dealers.

This needs further investigation

If you are not looking for outright grip, I would suggest running a 205/50/15 instead. Plenty of options in that size in Europe.
Otherwise, you can buy Nankang AR-1 from Nankang EU in 225/45/15

Hard to fit a 205 on a 9" wheel. Even my 225 r1rs are kinda stretched on the 9.

If this is true, bummer. Been really happy with the R1R.

Ikr.. I just got confirmation from Toyo that they are indeed discontinued for the EU market. All Dot 2019 and newer tires must have S2WR2 markings in Europe. Well, ****... anyone has some info on other markets?

Is it weird to still want to run these? Got any suggestions for a 225/45 R15 that is not a full on track tire?

meh, a tyre design that worked 10 years ago will still work the same today.
as far as I know there havent been any great leaps in rubber tech since 09

as far as tyres, I've heard that the Kumho V70A and V720 are decent, and somewhat comparably priced to the Toyo gear.
Havent personally used them though.
