Already posted this on m.net, but looking for an answer tonight so figured I'd post here to see if I have any better luck

Currently in the process of installing xidas on my 01 miata. Should I be stacking two lower bushings on my rear xidas (3 total including small top bushing)? The gen 2 intall vid does not mention stacking, but the gen 1 vid does.

It doesn't seem that the whole stack would fit w/ the top hat in place as I would have no room to put the top nut on with the extra bushing. However, I can compress the spring to make it fit if that's what should be done.

Any help/thoughts much appreciated - trying to finish the job tonight but guess I didn't do my homework

 

I have coaxial top mounts, so I can't answer your specific questions, but if compressing the spring makes putting the top nuts on easier, you have too much preload on the spring. Back the lower perch way down before you install the top hats.

 

I had the perch far enough down that there was no tension on the spring. It seemed that step on the shaft that the lowest washer sits on was too high for the stack w/ lower double bushings to all fit, so the position of the step was causing the issue.

EDIT: Actually I guess compressing the springs wouldn't help w/ the issue if it's the shaft?

 

Seems to me if you have the Gen 1 Xidas, you follow the Gen 1 install video. If you have Gen 2 Xidas, you follow the Gen 2 install video. What's so difficult?

 

Yeah that's what I'm going with now.

I was just confused why they would ship with both bushings stacked on the rears if they aren't supposed to be installed that way (as opposed to just including them separately like they do for the fronts)
