It's just a PWM valve, Aussie is using one IIRC.

If i ever get around to getting and fitting a Hondata Intake gasket with the coolant passages blocked i'll also use the NB idle valve so I can cut off the coolant that runs through the NA Idle valve.....every little helps

You need a NA CAS to give you a useable signal man. And i think a few other small mods it is pretty simple from what chad has explained to me though.

I have read this complete post many times and am wondering about the TPS signal? I have a 1990 1.6, turbo and IC. I have built the V2.2 board and the JIm Stim and have everything working and have played with it to learn. I want to use MS to control fuel and timing under boost and to remove the AFM. I want to do a boomslang harness so what happens to the TPS signal? I do not see it in the wires for the harness. Can the MS work without it? I have found an automatic TPS and would like to install it but from the instructions in this post I do not see it wired in. What am I missing?

1.6L is an on/off switch so you don't need it. If you add a TPS run the lead to the MS.

The '90 1.6 didn't come with a linear TPS so the signal is worthless to the MS. The stock 1.6 TPS in manual transmission cars was a on off switch.
You'll be adding the TPS to the car, so it should be grounded at the stock ecu grounding point and 12v can be had anywhere. The TPS signal and +5vref must be connected to MS.

The 99-00 IAT sensor must stay connected to the stock ECU. If you remove it your alternator circuit will not be completed. I do not know if you can replace the stock IAT sensor with the GM one to keep the stock ECU happy.
But, can you replace the GM one with the miata one?

Oh, I had another thought on nixing the OEM ECU: Cruise Control. Not something I use a lot, but something I would miss. I'm going with an MS-II, I bet I could write my own CC routine, what is it beyond a PID controller? Just gotta watch out for like the 50 different switches involved.

Anyway, it looks like my shopping list is down to:
MS-II/pcb3.0/case: $250
PWM IAC mod: $7
Inj(needed?) mod: $7
JimStim: $65
Wiring 30 pin Connector: $10
Bending Tool: $6

Options:
IAT Sensor: 22
Bung for IAT?: 10
MS 18" Wiring Pigtail: 48??
MegaView-II: $135
Digital Touchscreen: $???

Looking like $350 unless I get one of the schnazzy displays. I want to find a video/pic of one of those in action. Anyway, am I making any mistakes for a 2000 with a turbo and a terrible driver?

You don't want to use the miata IAT sensor in your IC charge piping, it's a closed element push in. The gm is open element and threaded. Shopping list looks fine. Needs EBC control though.
What 30 pin connector are you talking about?
Buy the 2' bundle of wires instead of the assembled pigtail, it's cheaper and that way you know your harness will be setup right to your own specs.

Sorry, I was just calling it a 30 pin cause I'm getting it confused with something at work. :-P Erm, the main, 'parallel port' looking connector in the front of the MS.

Oh, you're saying the miata IAT would be too slow? Anyway. I have a bung, I guess I can T off it somehow. :-) Just pre throttle plates, right?

EBC valve? I already have a couple. Not using them, but I will put one back in after getting everything else working. For the time being boost control isn't my issue. I might press the big friendly order button tonight. :-)

You don't need to order a DB37 connector, the MS kits come with one.
You should use the GM open element sensor, mounted before your throttle body. Not only will the miata IAT be too slow but there is no way to mount it in the tubing unless you do a positive mount which is pointless.
To use EBC you don't just need the valve you need the modkit as well. Not sure what you need with MSII, MSI you need the modkit they offer $7.

Thanks, on your suggestion I asked the guys at DYI. It looks like you just don't need it on the MS-II, which seems weird but I'm not going to argue. Thanks for the info on the connector.

Now, any idea on a source for the OEM ECU connector to fab up my boomslang?

For a '00?
The parts numbers and links are in the faq. First post.

Here:

(1) 64 Pin Male connector (174518-7)
http://www.onlinecomponents.com
They have a minimum order. Do you just want the large female connector? I can probably sell you one.

you don't need the touchscreen AND the Megaview, the touchscreen is more of a laptop replacment, with the Extra code you can't edit any of the options in MegaView, only errrrr view

You can code, you know what a PID is, you're using MSII and you have a 99/00? You are so drafted:

one of my good friends from my town is the designer/builder/owner of the touchscreen. I saw it from the ground up when it started as a senior design project here at Uconn. Great product, but when you are first starting out it is absolutly not necessary. Plus, wait a few more months and he may have better packaging and even more options.

A few questions from me:
I just got all my parts to build my boomslang harness (thank you for part #s)... What wire guage is necessary? What type of wire?

Also... i ordered an open element IAT because i plan on boost in the future... for now can it be mounted in the intake track?

Thanks for this thread. its what pushed me to order everything this week!

18awg stranded for the large .070" contacts, 20awg stranded for the .040" contacts.

yes, plumb it into the intake somewhere, you may be able to remove a resonator and shove it there. then remove the AFM/MAF.

Brain: My connectors came today to make my boomslangish harness, thanks for finding the part for those! I actually found out through some google searches that is a pretty common PCM connector on imported cars, nice to know its not super rare.

Can you tell me advantages and disadvantages of soldering the wires directly to the 64 pin connector vs. soldering that connector to a circuit board then soldering wires onto that?

Heh, wow, a lot to comment on....

Indeed! Along with common sources, I'd rather get stuff from peeps on this board, etc. It'd be a super big help.

Hahah. Well, I can't code *well*. But yeah, I'm interested in getting into it. Once I get some hardware on the car, right now I'm still running a Link Piggyback.
Oh, and I read that thread backwards. It makes more sense the other way, people seemed less psychic.
No, JPL is up in Pasadena I thought. Just a little engineering firm, it's fun stuff. Today I'm testing glue for staking wires. Or I should be. I'm actually reading about MS's. :-)

Hey, that's awesome. Yeah, I wasn't thinking of getting it yet, but looking at it as something I could do down the road. I might play with the firmware on it as something harmless. :-) It's a nice interface.
