A few OEM's are pursuing this technology. It allows you to run higher compression ratios on turbo engines for good fuel economy and emissions without sacrificing timing at higher load.
I've also heard they can run stoich AFR under boost and suppress detention this way rather than enriching to ~ 11:1 AFR.
