Interest in 30mm fenders for the 245 Maxxis on 15x10?

We have both an NA and NB project in our shop that need fenders to accommodate the 15x10 6UL and Maxxis 245/40/15 VR-1. Unfortunately there are no vendors currently supplying any. I chatted with Dave Green today DG Motorsports

I told him about the new tire a lot of Miata owners will be getting and asked if he would be interested in doing fenders for both bodies. He has an NA at his shop and had planned to design some new body panels for it anyway. So we are sending a 15x11 with 275 and 15x10 with 245 for mocking up. For those of you not familiar with DG motorsports, it is high quality stuff. You won't see the "mostly finished, sorta fits" AK type of parts from DG. Costs a few bucks more maybe but well worth it if you are hacking into your Miata already. DG has been doing parts for Goodwin for years too.

Plane is for a complete FRP front fender and complete FRP rear qtr panel. One could probably order carbon too but I'm guessing most here will be happy with FRP.

Dave is going to get some measurements off their current NA and NB widebody, which looks like its 15x11/275 friendly already.

pic of the current DGM ND widebody. Not sure how wide these are exactly but we'll find out.

Id be interested in rears so i could fit a larger/wider tire to put power down depending on the price shipped. I am not a fan of just tacking on flares.

Ha, I was just looking at AK and CarbonMiata. I was about to post a nice ranting thread about why can't these body guys make something that looks nice and flows and doesn't fit like trash (my old car was a kevlar AK wide body and it was a waste of 3k)

I may be interested depending on time frame and if it sticks to the OEM body lines and doesn't had dumb aero cut outs and integral side skirts and other trash.

Dave is of the same frame of mind. Integrated and OEM looking, not rocket bunny. I used the example of the C6 vs the C6 Z06.

This is one of the few widebody/flare threads that I'm thoroughly appreciating/approving.

Clean/OEM looking Molded flares >>>>>>> hacked/bolted on trash

I'm definitely interested in a widebody, and I've been looking very hard at the autokonexion GT.

I really love the front bumper and fenders on that kit, I'm less in love with the rear bolt on fenders of that kit, but they aren't bad, and I wish they didn't have the exposed fasteners.

I'm currently waiting on an autokonexion fastback, hopefully that shows up by the end of the month, we'll see.

I don't care for the current DG motorsports NA widebody all that much. I don't know how to put this without sounding like an idiot, but the flares are too abrupt, especially on the front fender.

So if they are making a new version, my vote goes to a smoother more gradual fender flare.

Looks clean! Should have broad based appeal. Most of the previous wide body stuff was kinda rough and catered to track cars. A quality version should sell well.

I May be showing my age, or complete ignorance...but these remind me of the awr kit.....alot.

We're they one in the same once?

The current DG kit is the old AWR kit and yes, the flares are not well integrated. Dave tells me he "inherited" the tooling and it isn't exactly what he would have come up with either.

I had to give up on Mike (AK). After loaning him the car to build the mold, designing the NB fender and cutting my qtr panels off, he stopped returning my calls/emails. Many other projects stalled waiting for panels from him. Super nice guy but perhaps too many life issues to effectively run a business. I couldn't give him money for a car part if I tried.

Bingo. That's pretty much everyone's complaint with the AWR designed kit. Nice but if you are going to the trouble to do a complete fender, then why not fully integrate the shape into the OEM body lines. That said, some people really like that tacked on flare kind of look. But I think that group is a minority, thus the reason for this thread.

Dave isn't opposed to the idea of tossing out the old widebody kit and doing a fresh, fully integrated kit but that's really for the 257 on 11's, of which there are far fewer. This thread is really about a smaller fender kits specifically sized for the 245 on 10. Deviate (our K20 NA build) will never get 11's so I don't want to add spacers to 10's to get then to look halfway decent. I want my 10's to fit just like our 9 with 225 does on a stock fender.

Yeah, I've read a lot of threads on various forums about autokonexions poor customer service. Their website started saying they were going to try to do things differently so I decided to take a chance and got on the waiting list for a fastback. I'm hoping they deliver.

The problem is they are the only ones making fastbacks, and widebodies that I really like.

I have a fantasy of buying their molds and just starting a business to sell the parts myself, lol.

When i bought my GT wide body kit back in 2012/2013 he had decent customer service.But the quality and fitment were lacking.

As far as quality, i bought the kevlar kit and if you held it up to sunlight there were many many voids of pure resin. I was a little disappointed that they only received one layer of kevlar with some loose strand fiberglass splattered on the back. I know i wasn't going to get F1 pre-preg vacuum bagged parts but i expected decent materials usage.

I could get over the lack of layers, but the fitment was plain crap.

I expected a little sanding and drilling holes and basic work to fit. But I'm talking things being very off. The mounting flange that runs down the length of the fender sat at about a 20 degree angle relative to the chassis. so you have to flex it bad when you bolt it down putting stress into the part. also the side skirts fit like shit, and the mounting points on the trunk i bought make a wicked big seam gap at the rear of the trunk.

I spend over $3000 with him on parts and i don't feel that i got $3000 quality.

Would be really great if we could get something semi-stock looking as well as high quality, I've only heard increasingly bad things about AK over the years

and if for some reason these can not accommodate a stock bumper, please make a ep/crusher style bumper, stock look flat front with no cutouts.

Honda drag style but less flare.

The NB price at $1100 is pretty good for quality pieces.

The current NB kit, the old AWR design is a partial rear fender. We are only really considering a complete rear fender so I have a feeling the cost might be a bit more. If I'm going to hack the car apart get it painted and go through all this trouble I don't mind a few extra hundred bucks to make sure that it actually fits properly.
