Default 6UL Spoke Cracks

Gents,

Four plus years ago, during a post track event inspection, I found one cracked spoke in two of my First Gen 8" wide 6ULs. I retired the whole set, but kept them all. They've been taking up space in my garage ever since.

Has there been any advances in welding technology that could fix these wheels? I suspect the answer is no, but wanted to ask anyway.

Thanks,

No way to repair a cracked or severely bent lightweight race wheel. First gen so somewhere between 15-17 years old. Removing the entire set from service is the correct thing to do. Drill a hole in each barrel and recycle.

Wow. I've been here over 14 years and had the car longer than that.

They make great hose reels. I give them away to corner workers. Not 6ULs in particular, just assorted bent or cracked track wheels.

Seems such a shame to drill a hole through the two wheels that aren't cracked...

If they're cracked from fatigue then the other two are probably not far behind.

This. You do a compression check, #1 is almost dead and the other 3 are ok. You rebuild the whole engine, not just #1.

Once 6ULs wear out, you can always just move your tires to new wheels
