best autocross tire/dd for 7 inch rim
 

What is the best tire at a decent price under 100 a piece thats available( rs3 are not) for auto cross and dd. Decent wear would be nice.

Nothing in that price range if you want to be competitive. Kumho XS is close to that price, handles heat very well isn't as good in the rain as the RE-11s or Star Specs.

Ok how about 120 a tire. I can get proxies for that I think also dunlop direzza are under 100 how are they. Escta ast's are cheap how are they?

Well are you looking for a 14" wheel or a 15"?

You can get Dunlop Direzza Star Specs for around that price, great tires. I have them myself. Other choices include the Advan AD08, Bridgestone RE-11, or Kumho XS. Best street tires for autocross.

The regular Direzzas are ok in the dry, bad in the rain. Spend a little more and get much better tires. It's the part that keeps your car on the road.

I had them on my car for a little while and they're well below a lot of the other tires mentioned performance wise. I actually didn't feel like they were horrible for straight line traction, but they certainly did not like to turn. If you're going to autocross on them you'll be miserable.


R1R's are great all around IMO but they're going to wear quick. T1R's are mediocre are overpriced.

Ive used the R1R, XS and RE11 on my car and like the re-11 best for street use. I have 195/50 on some 15x7.5 wheels. I also have a set of 225 R1R that I have on some 9" 6uls.

As much as i hate them, TireRack has 205/50/15 Sdrives at 94+ship and XS' at 104.

Another vote for Star Specs, I love mine they are a really good all around tire IMO.

R1R's are the fastest, but wear a lot quicker than a Z1. On a STS car anyways, so add some more power and they'll wear even quicker. They're also a tad more expensive.

Dunlop star specs hands down. Key was you said DD and autocross, which means they need to be good in the rain and not wear out really fast. No better tire out there in my opinion. I've had Azenis (old/new), Kumho MS/XS and a few others. Can't afford the fast wear tires and most dry compounds will kill you in the wet. Good luck.

+1 for an inexpensive decent multi-purpose tire with a better treadwear than the Star Spec(save money). You won't be throwing down FTD at an autocross, but you can still be competitive and have fun with the s.Drives

^Sure, you can be competitive at the back of the field.

Take a look at what the competitive guys run at your autoX events are running, its usually a pretty good indicator.

I'm running 195 sDrives on stock NB 15x6's while I'm still in the rainy season. I got them brand new from a local forum member for way less than retail or I would have done the Star Specs. The sDrives seem to be a very competent daily driver tire, but not when compared to what the more "dedicated" autoX guys run.

I'm running 225 RS3s on a set of 15x8 6ULs when I want to have fun, but they seem to hydroplane like a beeeeotch in the rain. I wish I had a set on 15x9s tho... :(

If you're at the back of the field then you probably just suck. If you're a good driver you should be competitive with any decent tire. I just got a set of Star Specs and I'm happy with them on the road so far. No autocross events yet though to give an opinion on that subject. I just did a similar poll on clubroadster.net.

If you're looking at an S-Drive class tire, you should also consider the BFG G-Force Sport. That's what I'm running now, and I like them better than the S-Drives I had before.
