So, legit question here though. In an autocross context, wouldn't a harder tire take longer to warm up on a light car vs a heavier one? Or would the increased speed of the lighter car offset the weight difference in terms of the friction and heat created?

I guess this question would probably be better answered by searching and reading online.

Yeah all things being equal, the lighter car will take longer to warm up. But things aren't equal (i'd still expect a miata to warm up a tire faster than an exocet anyway), the tires aren't exactly ***** of slippery ice to begin with, and there's not a magic point were "Oh the Exocet weighs 500lbs less, no way these tires will work, but if it was only 400lbs less... magic!"

They only time I've heard of this being an issue us with hoosier R6/R7 on a light car at an Auto-X. It's the reason they make A6/A7

Some people care about it in context of autox on "real" cars and it makes sense there.

But Exocets aren't legal in street tire classes anyways.

Can we get some more pics of these setups on NB 15x10?

@emilio700 Do you happen to have more pics from the green NB photoshoot?

I ordered Longerdongers when 6ULs were out of stock, and i'm suspecting something happened in their factory. Ordered 15x10 +25s but the fitment looks absolutely nothing like what little i've seen of the green car, or even the blue NB2 that was posted on the previous page. Longerdongers are also available in a 15x10 +10, and i'm thinking that even though they said +25 on the box, that i may have gotten +10s, possibly even with +25 cast into the wheels. Will be measuring this weekend, but general consensus of people who have seen the car in person is that it just doesn't look right.

Given the success of the 245/40-15 street tires, what's next? I would love a 275/35-15 200UTQG "street tire" to slip onto some fresh 15x11" Tungsten 6ULsssss

Rather than make a new thread, I figured I'd ask my question here: has anyone noted issues with tread splices? I'm considering running my VR-1s backwards on dry track days this summer to even out wear, but I know not all tires do well with that.

No issues at all doing this with the VR-1 on our enduro cars with the S1 compound.

Wearing like iron in south GA heat. Not as sticky as R-tires but better then any street tire. 15 sessions on these with peak temps just over 200*. Pretty happy with them.

Thread bump, just read through this entire thing and didn’t see an answer to my question.

What’s the best size recommendation for 15x8 on the street with a V8 (300-400hp) in an Exocet chassis? I planned on 245/40 but it seems like everyone here goes with 9 or 10 wide, I’m from the muscle car world where 245 and 8’s go well together. Is it worth sizing down to a 225/45 or would the power level dictate staying 245/40?

Your experience with muscle cars was with 50-60 series sidewalls. With 40 series it'll have the tire severely pinched. Do 9's for a street car or 10's if handling is a factor.

With that said a VR1 in a 245 might start to hook that power level in 3rd gear or at 80+ mph. Honestly you need a stickier tire and I wouldn't dream of a 225.
